Apple market share increases 0.0%.

Good news if you're looking for a cheap iPhone 2G/3G(s); Craigslist is epically flooded right now.

Big surprise.
They're overpriced and suck ass.

Just kidding!!
:awe:

Really though with all the hype and press I am not at all surprised. I knew they would sell great.

In a way yes, but in a way no. Like you said all those cheap 3G/3GS phones are likely to end up with people who haven't had an iPhone before, while most of those 1.7mil they sold will be going to their core consumer base.

True. Very impressive figures but it seems 99% of the people that have bought the new iPhone are just replacing their old iPhone. Still I doubt Apple will care who buys them once someone does!

Actually the figures that I read say that 70% of the people getting the iphone 4 were upgrading an already iphone plan. That's a lot of repeat customers, but that also means that the 30% of the new adopters account for 510,000 new iphone users with the 1.7 million sold number. That only accounts for the new phones, not the new adopters that are getting older phones from craigslist, and of course that's only the first 3 days of release.

It'll change the market share... maybe not enough to leapfrog Android, but it will change.

Most of the people I know who are going to be first-time iPhone users are holding off on getting theirs until after the rush dies down. It is not like they have to have their new phone right now. Also, a surprising number of acquaintances are waiting for the white iPhone.

Good point. I think if I were in the market for one it would probably be the white one. Still waiting on that iPhone to Sprint announcement to come any day now... :p

You'll probably be waiting a while... the original contract was for 5 years which puts the end of it at 2012. Most of what I've read confirms this, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

That's 566,000 activations a day. 3.5x that of Android with multiple devices on multiple carriers.

Only downside of their slick little cases. They have very limited colors. I remember for years iBook fans were wondering why they had a choice of colors for the iPod but not their laptops. Took Apple a long time to make that happen. I dunno if those are even available now.

I have been wondering about a stainless steel or aluminum Droid myself.

it was 80k/day a couple of months ago, then 100k/day last month. now is it 160k/day. It doesn't sound like a spike to me.

They just take a number on the day a new phone is released. 160k is probably from the EVO launch. Expect to hear another number shortly after the Droid X. If you think Android is doing steady 160k a day you're smoking crack.

The evo was released June 7, iirc. The numbers were released June 23rd. I honestly don't know whether it is continuous (and neither do you). Don't hate. Congratulate. Appreciate. Celebrate.

No surprised the iphone 4 sold that much.
Much better specs and more importantly a fresh new design.
I'll get one to play with once the white one is out.

Indeed. We all win. Just think back to the bygone year of 2007, before the iPhone. In three short years, Apple and Google have shaken up the mobile phone space to an incredible degree.

Like the data has shown before, Android still hasn't even caught up to Blackberry/iPhone. What they have caught up in is units in the last quarter.
