iPhone 4: New Text Messages Not Appearing In Current Message Window

I recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1. Since the update, I've encountered a new problem where if I am in a text message conversation window and the person with whom I am texting in that window sends a new message, it does not populate in that window. I get the notification (sound or vibrate), the "Messages" back arrow in the top left adds the "(1)" and when I go back to my messages list, that current chat with the new message is there at the top but I have to go back to my chat list to see new messages even though the new message(s) are in the current chat window.

This happens both with iMessage conversations and old-school SMS conversations and happens both in group messages and one-on-one message conversations.

Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone solved this issue?

I'm trying to avoid going to the "genius bar." I despise the Apple store for many reasons.

Can't say that I am having that problem no. I am having a Messages issue in the Mountain Lion Beta, but that is a whole other thing

Not an issue with my iPhone 4 & iOS 5.1.1 and AT&T.
