Today was the last day I could purchase SquareTrade for $99, which must be done through the app. I was going to do it and I got a phone call.

During the phone call, my screen melted to white after briefly showing an error message that I couldn't charge with "this device" (nothing was connected to the phone). Now the phone won't turn on and I can't get to an Apple Store until Friday.

I have no phone and can't call Apple nor SquareTrade.

I want to break things.

I just needed to rant. Did anyone else experience a phone that died this way?

I ignored a beep from my mother because I was going to call her back after I finished the call I was on. I was using a Bluetooth headset (Voyager Pro). The iPhone 4 has all kinds of problems with Bluetooth. Combined with the face proximity sensor issue, the phone is already pretty useless. During the phone call, I pressed the lock / pwr button to make the screen come on and it looked normal for a split second. A message appeared that said the phone doesn't support charging from this device (as if I was using an old firewire charger or something) with a giant yellow triangle and exclamation point. It was very brief, then the screen melted to white with strange bands like a dead LCD.

The call didn't end. I was still talking via Bluetooth. After ending the call, I tried to see if the phone was responsive even though I couldn't see anything. It was not. I tried to initiate voice dialing and it didn't respond. I forced it off by holding pwr+Home, and now it won't turn on.

So.. your phone died while trying to purchase a warranty?

is this a joke?
0/10

No joke.

Wow, iPhone users really are suckers huh? You were about to voluntarily purchase an extended warranty?

Wouldn't it suck if the phone died outside of Apple's warranty while you were still in the contract?

What if, after some time, all iPhone 4's start dying this way?

Is there a way to call out using Google Voice and pairing my Bluetooth headset with the computer? Only option I get in GV is to have Google call my mobile phone to connect the call...and I have no working phone.

I installed the Chrome GV plugin too.

Why not purchase the warranty shortly before the Apple one ends? Why pay for two warranties? Do you have a parasite in your brain?

Apple has no accidental damage warranty...NONE.

Also, you get a discount if you purchase the warranty within 30 days of purchasing the device. That's what I would miss out on.

Jesus christ, sucker born every minute. Hook, line and sinker son - you're a warranty salesman's best friend.

Of course it has manufacturer's warranty. The warranty I was trying to purchase would also include accidental damage protection.

I'm just going to have to pay more because I can't purchase the protection within 30 days...so I'm probably just not going to buy it.

The simplest thing to do is to go to an Apple Store or call Apple Support. They'll take care of everything.

why not just go here:
http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/iphone-landing24?ccode=bs_war_vc_090:HPother

and purchase it?

Special Limited Time offer - Get 20% off and save $25

Your Price: $124 $99

The discount is only if it's purchased within 30 days, which is what I tried to do.

I actually did go there. I'd post a screenshot of the failed transaction at 11:59PM, but I'd have to censor out the credit card number...so I won't bother. It didn't work.

I thought I'd have to purchase through the app, but that's apparently just for phones older than 30 days. As of 20 mins ago, my phone is older than 30 days.

The simplest thing to do is to go to an Apple Store or call Apple Support. They'll take care of everything.

Takes me hours to get to one and my next opportunity won't be until Friday.
