Ok, the wife just ordered a new iPhone 4 to replace here 3G. The 3G is still running the old firmware, as she heard the new one was slow. This article from apple(http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109) says that the iOS needs to be current to transfer settings, contact info, etc. Is this correct?

My question is this: what do I need to do to transfer over her contacts from the old phone to the new one? I won't have the old one and new one at the same time as she is trading the old one in. I just had it sync contacts with her yahoo!, but it errored in the end. It took a while and looked like it made a full backup, but I am not sure. What else do I need to do? I guess this is one place where the android/google system seems to excel.

I just make itunes sync contacts with outlook, which is something everybody should have installed already with office so even if you don't use it it'll work fine. It's always looked perfectly. There's no version incompatibility if you sync with itunes from what I've seen.

If you're jacking in the old phone, just update it to the new firmware then switch to the new.
