Just bought a used iPhone 4 and the lock button is becoming unresponsive. Being that it was bought by someone else does that mean I'm out of luck? Would Verizon or Apple be the one to talk to?

The phone is less than a week old if it matters.

Try the Apple store, say it was a gift.

Just do as Pliablemoose suggested and take it to an Apple store. Tell them your story and they might be able to help or be feeling generous. If it was a phone that was purchased recently it might still be under warranty and they can fix it free of charge.

They're usually pretty good about helping out and honoring warranties. My brother had one of the first Intel Macbooks and they replaced a dead hard drive for free even though it was out of warranty for a few months.

I heard if this is your first time in the apple store, they will fix it for free. Not sure on that though. Check the warranty, might have one.

I'm pretty sure they can look at the serial # and tell when it was purchased.
If its been under a year, good chance they will fix it.
IP4 came out around this time as year so it should be within a year.

Yep, there's a good chance it's still under warranty, do you live near an Apple store?

If you mean "'new in box' less than a week old", then it should be under warrantee and Apple should swap it out for you.

Yes, the device was purchased less than a week ago brand new. The closest apple store is an hour and a half away though.

Make a day of it. It will probably be worth it, especially if you tell them how far you travelled.

Was able to find an app called quicklock that will let you lock the phone by clicking on the app. This will get me though till next weekend. Thanks for the help.
