iPhone 3G through Direct Fulfillment?

I ordered it Friday through DF and got it today.

What is Direct Fulfillment? I called AT&T in store to ask if I could purchase one and have it sent to me because an AT&T rep couldn't answer that (the store was pretty far away and I didn't want to drive back without reason). The answer I got was "No, not yet." The rep asked me what they said so he could tell other customers with the same question. If DF is what I think it is, they owe me gas money.

How do you do this DF? I called my local at&t store, and they told me I was crazy, and that it couldn't be done.

Go into your ATT store. Show them your credit card and driver's license and tell them you would like to purchase an iphone. They will order it for you and call you when it arrives in the store.

It's that simple, regardless of whatever your ATT store told you.

That's what I thought. If I can't get one at my local Apple store today, I'll give this another shot. Thanks!!!
