Has nobody noticed that the battery life for actual calls has not changed one bit? So for day to day phone usage you won't see one jot of a difference.

I'd say I spend 10% of my time on my iPhone talking to someone and the other 90% texting or using the net, so the increased battery life in other areas is great news to me.

Same here. I dont have an iphone but on my Samsung Eternity I spend most of my time, texting or using the browser. I use my cell phone for quick calls, I dont have long conversations on my phone.

Both the 3G & 3GS have a built in GPS. No sub will be needed for the TomTom app.

Really? that's good news. I don't have data plan so I really do not want to pay for the data plan if accessing GPS like my old samsung blackjack.

You won't be able to use the 3GS without a data plan. at&t ain't gonna allow it.

I am confused by all the people that are pissed about the unactivated price.

If I go to a Verizon store (my carrier) and tell them that I want a new phone, I would not be pissed at them if they asked me to cough up however much the unactivated price is because I am not yet due a new phone under my contract.

Does it suck that Apple is sticking to a 1 year tick-tock with the iPhone? Yes, I suppose it does a little.

Is it somehow Apple's fault that you cannot get the new iPhone 3G S at the new contract price, but before your contract is up? Maybe, but the alternative would have been you paying the $699 or whatever when you bought the 3G. Apple and AT&T reached an agreement where the 3G would be sold at a subsidized price, like every other phone that AT&T sells and every other phone that you have likely ever used has been sold, from most every carrier. This is nothing new. What is new is a manufacturer coming out with a new phone, every year, that you want. This is not 5 years ago. This is not like where you bought your RAZR, and then nothing else was interesting because well... the industry was stagnant so in 2 years you either bought your next RAZR, or the next hot phone at the time.

You signed a contract, that contract states that you will pay the carrier, every month, for 2 years, in exchange for that, you get their service, and a cheaper phone. It also states that if you want to break your contract, you pay a fee, or if you want to switch phones mid-contract, you pay the full price.

Yes, but as soon as you make a call on the at&t network, they will know you have an iPhone, and will send you a message informing you of such. You may not get informed right away, but you will be eventually.

well I forgot to add to those who might want to get their hot hands on 3GS it lacks camera flash and also it lacks adobe flashplayer too. I am sure they are not that important to you.

Eh? That may be so, but in essence it's nothing to do with them. If a user buys their own equipment then they *should* be able to do what they want with it. If that is use an iPhone without a data plan, then so be it. The only reason to force it is if you as the supplier are subsidising the device in the first place, which is not the case if you source it elsewhere.

If they are forcing it even on non subsidised kit then it's bordering on illegal.

I absolutely agree. Even it's not illegal - and I don't think it is since you can choose to do business elsewhere and no one is throwing AT&T execs in jail - it still seems unfair and wrong.
