Weird picture of him on page/when I jailbroke. He looks like Frodo from LOTR. Was damn easy but 3.1.2 kinda = t3h sucks because double tapping the home button no longer brings up volume control. When I'm playing a game I can't figure out how to change the volume on my 1g Touch :( I understand adding new features, but at least make it an option where I can toggle the volume control on or off.

Sorry to bump this thread but I just got my first ever iPod Touch and promptly jailbroke it. Is there currently a non-tethered solution for this? Having to jailbreak every time I boot the phone is kind of lame. Running firmware 3.1.2 with the option to upgrade to 3.1.3 if that matters.

The newest 8gb, I believe it's and updated 2G (I think the 8gb isn't a proper 3G, right?).

thats the thing. you might have a "newer/3G" 8GB, which means you might have a tethered jailbreak. the way to tell is if your touch serial begins with "MC". if it does, it'll be tethered. if it doesnt, you have the older touch, your jailbreak wont be tethered.

Serial number doesn't start with MC but model number does, I assume this is what you mean. Arg, hope there's a fix for this soon. The jailbreak is pretty cool but this tethered crap sucks. Is there some way to store that blackra1n.exe file on the device itself?

I was thinking of jailbreaking my wife's iphone just to see what all I could do with it. if I did would she know it? IOW does it delete all of her current apps, text messages, backgrounds, etc?

I was thinking of getting an iphone for myself so I wanted to experiment around with it a bit.

And if I did and Apple comes out with a new firmware, what would happen if she updated to it? Would it mess anything up or just erase the jailbreak and jailbreak apps?

What happens is you download or make your own jailbroken software update or there are programs that will jailbreak after you use the Apple update. Then you load that onto your iPhone (make sure you do a backup) because it does do a complete upgrade. Then restore from backup and everything will be back again.

You would have to wait until they update the jailbreak again. So maybe 2-3 week delay depending. Sometimes it's more sometimes it's less. If you do update through Apple officially it will undo the jailbreak and the jailbroken apps will be gone. You'll just have stock firmware.

Thanks for the info. So, worst case scenario is that any jailbreak apps will be gone? No big deal.

Do you know if the current apps on the phone will be lost when you jailbreak it? Will it erase all of her text messages, etc????

If you're using Pwnagetool, it's basically uploading a new firmware and you're going to lose everything. Prepare to back it all up. There's backup utilities to save your JBed and Cydia apps too... and official app settings. I believe you need App Backup and AptBackup to do it all on top of Apple's official backup.

:\

I don't know what Pwnagetool is. I thought BlackRain was the "jailbreak" tool.
