Type it in so that you don't accidentally go there. Scroll down, click on Install AppTapp; the servers are overloaded but if you get in it goes back to the home screen after a second or two. Use Wifi instead of EDGE for better/faster results. More info:

That installs the Installer app which lets you download other apps automatically. It's pretty cool stuff! Thanks to aphex for linking me 🙂

You have to realize that Apple will have this exploit patched away very soon. The fact that such changes can be made by simply connecting to a website is unacceptable in the eyes of security analysts.

Of course, but that will require a new firmware, which isn't a forced upgrade. Users on 1.1.1 will simply patch the TIFF exploit themselves.

What I am curious about, for those who simply jailbrake and do not unlock, what the chances are to get a brick during the next update.

I want to jailbreak to get some "non-web games" on there, but I'm scared 🙂

None. Bricking is an iPhone thing related to the cellular electronics*, and it's always recoverable. If there was a chance of bricking, you could just do a restore on the iPod before doing a firmware update.

* iPhone owners who jailbroke their iPhones were fine, it was only those who also unlocked them. When the jailbroken iPhones updated, all that happened was that the applications were erased.

But what's to say apple won't change their strategy next time around? If they intend to "sell" apps come this feb - they have all the reason in the world to try.

Then again, with the sheer number who have jailbroken now, the negative press would be insane.

So far I have had ZERO problems with this hack. Summerboard is the bomb, apps are the bomb, I love it! I have a very unique-looking iPhone now 😀

All Apple's iPod Touch firmware updates do is erase the OS partition and reload the new OS on it, it would be difficult to brick it. And if you are using such a Touch and are paranoid, then you should be waiting on the all clear before updating, or doing a recovery first.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but does this work on an iTouch? I have a friend wanting to jailbreak his and this looks like the easiest way.

As long as it's a first gen on 1.1.1, it probably will, but most people have newer firmware. If this site is up still at all.

Just use WinPwn or PwnageTool for a newer firmware. You get the benefits of >2.0 (such as appstore and newer softwares supported) and it's better supported. A lot of softwares released require 2.0+
