I've been doing this multiple times a day, hoping to get a new IP, as my current one has terrible routing / is on a bad bad box.

Should I take it up with Cox? Or is there a way?

Cox has, 24: , 68: , and 70: , IP addresses.

I have a 68: and I have 50+ packet loss constantly in any game any server, but this only happens after maybe 4 and until 12.

Bad bad box stacking. Maybe it's time to switch to FiOs.

I don't know what you mean by " bad bad box" but assume that you are refferign to a router.

Am I also to assume that you are conencted directly to the internet and are not using router? if not, please correct me.

Cox does indeed have multiple Class A networks, but for strategic and management-riented reason they are geographically assigned. In my case, my friends who have Cox in Northern Virginia have a 68.x.x.x address while VerizonDSL uses a 64.x.x.x and Verizon FiOS seems to use a 12.x.x.x

Anyways, if you are gettign packet loss, it is safe to say that the whole internet isn't suffering along with you, so a router or routers are at fault.

Try running a traceroute to see which is the culprit and let Cox know.

Options:
1. Switch NICs. This could be a PITA if you have to register your MAC.
2. Unplug your internet connection or turn your machine off for a day or two.

I doubt it'll change much of anything though.

I think you will have to change nics, or unplug that nic from the network for a while. The way DHCP works is that when it renews it requests the last ip it had first. If its available it is given to it, otherwise it gets a new ip. So if you wait long enough with the nic unplugged someone might take your old ip and you will get a new one.
