What's with these other strange networking devices? I have an integrated LAN, a 3Com PCI NIC, and a Belkin Wireless (802.11b) PCI NIC. My friend was mucking around, trying to get Windows File Sharing to see the other PC on the network. Now each device seems to have two IP addresses, the second being an extremely cryptic-looking string.

Well, since it isn't needed at this time...how would I remove it? Why would IPv6 add all of those strange additional devices?

It sounds like the wired isn't getting an DHCP IP from the router, assuming you have that kind of setup. Not sure on a fix, and I may be wrong...how is your setup?

It sounds like the router is not providing DHCP. My router frequently chooses to stop providing DHCP to one of my systems. It refuses to acknowledge that the other system even exists no matter what until reset the router. After that, everything works fine for a few more days.

Grrr. I hate Linksys (WRT54G wirelesss 802.11g router with recent firmware).

Have you try to re-install the TCP/IP stack?
