ipaq fingerprint dilemma

talk about frustrating!, i just bought an ipaq 5455 off a member in fs/ft forum. I was so jacked about it I had it shipped overnite fedex..so today I arrive home and my little bundle of joy is waiting for me...one problem

it's set to recognize the previous owners fingerprint....doh!

any hack around the fingerprint? can i tell it that my dog ate it?, or that I forgot it?

i've now left the battery out for 15 minutes, and i've tried the stylus button hole on the underside. it doesn't have the switch on the bottom covered by a sliding door like my 3635 though

oh geez... lol. I'd go for a hard reset, remove the battery and the backup. There's usually a way to kill the PDA off and reset it back to factory condition.

Ipaqs have fingerprint recognition? Sweet!

A hard reset oughta do it for you. Odd that the previous owner wouldn't have done that before he shipped it...were you expecting some stuff to already be on it or something?

Contact the AT member. There should be an emergency password. 😛 A hard reset / battery removal should do it though. Try hooking it back up again now.

That's a soft reset... hard reset requires pushing like 2 buttons and the softreset button, all simultaneously. It didn't ship with a manual?

ok, i tried the fingerprint thing 'til it locked me out and gives me a screen command for a "full reset" which loses all data -- fine by me. but the screen doesn't seem to be responding to the taps...grrrrrrrr

This doesn't help if he doesn't know what the 4 digit pin is...

And you can enter PIN numbers in a finger recognition system? I thought everything is locked up until your fingerprint is recognize.

Hire someone to get the guys finger and cut it off, and make a keychain for you.

I guess that would work if you wanted to take the Mafia route...

i'm almost there! it has every manual except for the actual system manual, and i can't see to find the hard reset information....so close

yes!, it was an awesome deal!!!!

I think my hard reset is just holding in the soft reset then powering it on. I'll check and be back.

If the reset doesn't work, you gotta leave the battery out for ~1 hour.

True reseting the Security the following way. This will wipe all info on the iPAQ including secutiry settings.

Get to a point where it will ask for your PIN. Then keep entering the wrong one, until the unit states too many failed attempts.

It will them prompt you to do a Full Reset. Say yes. And then perform a hard reset. '

To do a full reset, Hold Button 1 and Button 4, then while still holding these two buttons press and hold the soft reset button with the stylus until the unit blanks out. Release all buttons and the softreset. Wait 10 seconds, then soft reset the unit.

Set up and reconfigure you unit.

oh yeah! ol jonny's in business now. gracias EDiT and those others with good insight... just when you think you know everything...bam, i find out I don't! hehe

awesome toy! now, anyone got good sites where I can pickup some freeware for this badboy!?

Sorry, don't really have much freeware on mine.

What I really want to find is T9 keyboard for PPC2002. I had a Philips Nino years ago with it, and I hate any other onscreen keyboard after using it.

Ubook Reader

Best reader out there... and it's free! It's the only ebook reader i know that can read from compressed files (in zip and rar), so is a huge storage saver.

Nice! It works with .txts, so that should save me ~10-20MB when I zip them all up.
