iPaq ethernet card question: How do you browse the internet?

I installed a Kingston smartmedia ethernet card into my iPaq
last night (using the smartmedia sleeve). I assigned a static IP
address and provided the IP address of the computer to which I was
syncing as the WINS address, and I was able to sync without problem.

HOWEVER, I was not able to surf (using Internet Explorer). Any page
I tried to access came back as "unavailable". If I connect using the USB
sync cable instead, then I can surf using IE without problem...
(The computer that I'm syncing with is connected to the internet,
obviously).

What am I doing wrong (or what haven't I set properly).

sounds like this belongs to the networking forum?

But ill throw in a few cents

first of all, why WINS? Its Windows internal name server/service... are you sync'ing to an NT4 system?

Dont you have to specificy a gateway/DNS ? Is DHCP needed or enabled anywhere on your network, or from your iSP?

I guess i just need some more info...

what your sync system is, how it connects to the net etc.
