ipaq 3635 problems

i just got an ipaq 3635 from a friend used.. he says he hardly ever used it but that it has issues.

so far heres what ive found.. any help with these is appreciated

the thing resets itself. i got the latest rom from compaq last night, ran through the initial setup, turned it off and went to bed.. got up this morning, turned it on, and its like new again, wanting me to go through the setup 🙁 .. according to the guy i got it off of it does this ALL the time, but he said it only did it when the battery died.. it obviously didnt die tho ;/

another problem ive had is the buttons on it.. whenever i press them they come up as a different mapping.. same button comes up as up, down, left, right, 195, 196, etc.. 😛 theyre also hard to press.. i have to really put some force on them to get any reaction ;(

it ALSO likes to turn itself on >< i turned it off and put it in the cradle to recharge, it just turned itself back on 5 min later for no conceivable reason?! maybe its trying to sync or something, is there any way to stop that?

and lastly is the crazy rf stuff this thing spews out.. its killing the signal from my mx700.. i cant find anything anywhere to turn that off ;( the only thing i found is a 'beam' setting, which has a single checkbox in it, but tha doesnt seem to have any effect..

anyone? ;/

iPaq 36xx are old.

If it is still the original (or old) Battery it probably do not Hold the charge.

When you charge it, every thing looks OK, but after few hours it is dead or low enough not to be functional so it Resets the iPaq.

Get a New Battery and it will be gone.

The problem is that New battery+install might exceed $100, which means that you might be better off buying a New one.

:sun:

thing is tho, once it resets, the battery shows as almsot fully charged..

but yea, with all the problems im having with it it seems like a lost cause.. ill probably just get a newer one that has all the things id have to get a dozen adapters for this one for..

this should make an interesting toy for a kid anyhow.. ill give it to my nephew..

A ROM update will perform a hard reset, wiping everything. However, the battery may be going.

Dunno.

Mine does that, it's syncing. I remove the battery and charge it seperately in the cradle if need be.

Doesn't do that for mine with an MX700 - Bluetooth and IR here too.

i cracked it open, and noticed a little 'bridge chip' between the mainboard and the daughterboard that houses the buttons, and the usb port.

this bridge chip has a lot of bent pins on it.. and the connector on the mainboard has some bent contacts. ive tried lineing them up but i think it might be a lost cause..

does anyone know where i could get a replacement for this? its just a small white connector that connects the two boards.. i can post a pic of it .. but i think thats the problem .. at least for the buttons/syncing. the 'losing data' i could kinda live with.
