iPad2 for grandparents?

This is just an idea being thrown around my family...

my gma is 90, and my gpa is 95...

they have great grand kids, and grand kids across the country...

How easy is it for someone to truly use an iPad when they have NO experience with computers in general?

would facetime/skype/wtfever be easily used so that they could see/hear/talk to their gk/ggk's? what about email so they would be able to open up photos, videos of their gk/ggk's?

should i have my gma start a twitter account? (jk on that one)

i have the first ipad. its so easy its dummy proof. At their age it would be a matter of remembering what app does what.

typing on the onscreen kb may be an issue. depends how well they can use their fingers. if they have arthritis, it may be hard to use safari browser.

I suggest FaceTime over Skype.

As for how easy it is, it's literally just these steps:

- Click home button
- Slide finger on screen to unlock (literal text)
- Touch FaceTime icon (with text underneath)
- Touch a name on the list
- Done

When receiving a call, it's literally just touching the "accept" button.

Unless I am mistaken aren't you required to be on an Apple device to use facetime? Skype may be better for them if the entire family isn't running Apple.

It is kind of a requirement to be on an Apple device. Get a second iPad 2 if you're so insistent on ease of use, or an iPod Touch 4 if you can't spend that much money. FaceTime is a lot easier than Skype to set up both for you and for them, and it's more convenient.

I'd think that ease of use should be more important, but that's just me.
