Just curious.
I would like to buy a ipad or maybe a samsung tablet with 3g or 4g srvice capabilities,,,, but,, WITHOUT HAVING TO GET THE SERVICE FROM ATT, VERIZON, ETC.
I want to buy the tablet with the 3g/4g capability and then sometime in the future subscribe to the service from Verizon or Att. The area I live in has the 3g/4g service but my house is located in a dead area where the signal can be spotty at times. Verizon is adding more towers for coverage here. But,,, I don't want to have to pay for something I can't use all the time.
Can I buy the tablets with the capability then add the service later? Has anyone ever done this?
Thanks

Yeah, you can buy an iPad and use it without data plan. When you want to, you can add the data plan for 30 days, but you can cancel it any other time.

Tablets are not bound by the same contractual obligations that apply to phones.

You'd have to make a decision whether you want AT&T 4G or Verizon 4G since they use different chipsets in the iPad. But other than that, you can pay for service month to month.

HI
Sorry I am so slow in getting back here...
Thanks for the info. Last year I went to Vz to buy a Samsung tablet tgat was on sale for $150. I HAD to take a 2 year contract for the data and 3g service, etc. When I got home and did the math,,, that $150 tablet would have cost me over $1100 during that 2 year period!!!! I took the tablet back. When you read the fine print you have 72 hours to return the item. Then,,, VZ hits me with a $300 so called security fee telling me they have to get the item back and make sure it is working, and other idiotic crap.
Once again,, thanks!
