Wife wants one to replace her "solid like a Honda" Nexus 2013 32gb. And I have an iPad gen 3 wifi. Love the support for the apple pen and that it has nearly same the guts as its more expensive brother. I think this will be great for work as my go to "notepad" with Email and apple app support.

Preordered. Two 128gb one in rose for the wifey and mines in space gray. Got the LTE one's on VZW. This should be a big upgrade for both of us!

I am, it's time to replace my iPad 3 and given the guts of this it should last a good long while for my purposes. I've toyed with the idea of the surface but I don't like the feel of it, or some android tablet but I've never seen an android that doesn't have a ui lag to it. It's been explained that the lag is caused by background apps remaining running in the background whereas on iOS all processing power is diverted to the ui. That's all fine and good, but any visible lag in swiping etc drives me crazy, so until that goes away completely I would never be happy with one.

I don't care at all about the pencil support, but the new screen interests me though. My iPad is great for my purposes my it needs more power than what the 3 has in it. The 9.7 Pro has everything I want out of it.

It's probably nothing more than CABC (Content Adaptive Backlight Control) at work. AT has been hammering on its undesirableness on Android phones for years, and to do a 180° now would be.. eh, expected. ;)

It looks like a very incremental improvement over the ipad air 2. You likely wouldn't notice any of the changes, with the exception of pencil support if you're an artist type.

I have an iPad Air 32 GB. It still does the job, but it's starting to get slow - the 1 GB of RAM is becoming noticeable. If anything I'd upgrade to the iPad Pro 9.7" to get more storage (128GB sounds sweet!), and TouchID is alway nice (but I'd want TouchID 2). Eh, we'll see. It's either going to be an impulse buy or I'll wait till the iPad Pro 2 9.7" releases

I'm happy w/ my Surface, but my buddy will be ordering day 1. He's been talking about getting an ipad for a couple years, then when he heard rumors of one with a stylus that was his tipping point.

Apple isn't aiming this at iPad Air 2 owners -- it's targeting people with older iPads (particularly long-serving models like the iPad 2) and those creatives that wanted something smaller than the 12.9-inch Pro.

The "PC replacement" claims are audacious and a bit overblown, but I see those remarks focusing more on the casual crowd than, well, us. Hardcore fans forget that there are many people who own a PC primarily to check email, hop on Facebook and watch YouTube videos; they're not going to insist on a file manager or the ability to change app defaults. $599 (plus $149 for a keyboard, if needed) is relatively expensive for that, but then again... people didn't think that smartphones and tablets would shrink the PC market.

Heck yeah I would notice the 4GB of RAM, if it really has 4GB like the big boy does. I strip past the 2GB web browsing on my iPad Air 2 almost every time I use it.

Not I. Still very happy with my Dell Venue pro 11 and its real OS, 512gb SSD, pen and all.

I'm in the exact same situation. I don't use my iPad that often except for watching things so I might hold off a bit longer or if a certain sale happens I might jump on it.

The 1GB RAM is honestly the biggest factor, I hate how it reloads apps from the start just because I close it for damn second! Love my 6S for the speed. When I get on the Air it's like ZZZZ

Nope. I bought an Air 2 64 GB for CAD$659 in 2014, and then another Air 2 64 GB for CAD$559 in 2015.
Now in 2016, the Air 2 64 GB is $609, which is the exact average of the prices I paid in 2014 and 2015.

In contrast, the 32 GB 9.7" Pro is $799. Uh, no thanks.

That you can chalk up to the Canadian dollar's value being out of whack, unfortunately. I'm hoping it recovers enough that Apple feels compelled to drop prices in a reasonable timeframe. With that said, I'm still tempted... it's a big upgrade.

No, that is not due to the CAD being out of whack. It's due to 9.7" Pro pricing being out of whack. The current price for the 16 GB Air 2 is $499. It's $799 for the 9.7" Pro. That's 60% difference in price.

Looks like the iPad Pro 9.7" has 2 GB of RAM - Reddit. This pretty much eliminates it for me. It's not much of a step up from an Air to justify the price.

I think it's a good step up from the original Air, but not the Air 2 (unless you really needed Pencil support). Best to hold off until the Pro's first refresh before diving in.

We have an iPad, with a 9.7" screen. I forgot which one, since it doesn't matter. It's a wear and tear item. If it breaks, we'll get another one.

Do any iOS devs know if apps are limited to 2GB? Seems like this will cause problems if someone was building an app for the original Pro with 4GB in mind.

That's extremely disappointing. I wonder why they would limit it like that.

Same reason the iPhone 6 had 1GB of RAM at the end of 2014, when 2GB had already been standard in the other camp for close to 2 years, and 3GB was becoming common in high-end devices.

That's my concern as well. I guess they needed a way to differentiate the larger Pro and this model...

It's sad how outgunned Android tablets are compared to this. The Air 2 was already in a class by itself.

However, when I asked my wife if she wanted to upgrade from her Air, she asked what it would do better. When I told her she could use the Pencil, the sound would be better, it has a better camera, and she could have more tabs open in Safari she was uninterested.

Pencil doesn't interest her (just another thing to lose), she rarely uses the speakers, doesn't use the camera at all (only uses her 6S), and she's fine with everything else.

I don't think this will revitalize the tablet market at all - there still is no compelling reason for the average user to upgrade from an iPad bought in the last couple years. The Airs got too good too fast and besides a niche of the creative types, I don't think the average joe will care.
