Ipad mini 2/3 or Ipad Air 1/2 for Facetime with baby?

Hi,

I plan to get a couple christmas gifts for my parents and the new baby in the family. What's the best bang for buck for just FaceTime for grandparents and a baby?

It doesn't seem like (at first glance) the specs of the front Facetime HD camera are different between the AIR 2 and MINI 2/3?

Not sure if the minis are too small to facetime with a baby well?

I don't imagine the baby will be able to understand/interact with the screen - would it be worthwhile that one side has an AIR and the other has a MINI?

Thanks!

In my experience with my friend and Skype, until the kid was on his 60 inch TV it didn't register. He has a pile of seven and ten inch tablets.

For mom iPad Mini 2 all the way.

Thank you for your thoughts.

I did give the baby's family an XBOX ONE with Kinect last year, of course it hasn't been plugged in yet (lol). They can connect it to their living room TV.

I can get my parents an XBOX ONE with Kinect, but I fear for people approaching 70, turning the console on, starting SKype/etc. would be a little difficult for them vs. clicking FaceTime on an iPad. Not sure?

If I could keep the grand parents XBOX One on the whole time, and the baby's family could be the one that attempted to make a skype call, and the XBOX one automatically answered somehow, that might be perfect?

I tried the Skype thing with grand parents. It honestly didn't go well. One issue after another. I recently bought the iPad mini 2 and the grand parents have an iPad. FaceTime couldn't be easier. Already using it on a regular basis. Honestly though until the kids get older don't expect it to go that well. My kids are 6 and 4 and you put them on FaceTime and they spaz out. It's almost funny just how dumb and weird they become.

Bang for your buck though mini 2

Thanks! So you're thinking a mini 2 for the baby and an ipad air (or similar) for the grand parents?

Thanks!

I just got an order through for two IPad Air 2s through BestBuy. Thanks for the input! Hopefully they enjoy it.
