iPad charger extremely hot using extension cord.

But doesn't even get warm when plugged directly into the outlet. I know it's not the cord because I use it to charge other things and they don't get anywhere near the temperature of the iPad charger, so hot I can only touch it for half a second.

Is my charger defective or is this normal? The extension cord is a heavy duty indoor and I've used it for things that draw a lot more current than this charger with no trouble.

My iPad charger is hot when it is plugged into the receptacle, but only during charging. Once it is complete, it sits there very cool.
