iPad can't get DHCP even though it had it for 2 days straight????

Ok, so I found a few things about this on the web but no definitive answers......except....reboot router. That's fine and it works but I don't think it's necessary.

So I can't be sure of all the devices that got dropped but I'm at the old man's house who I have set up w/ 2 Buffalo routers repeating via Tomato. I was searching something for him and internet connection dropped. I checked and it was getting a 169 address. (ugh)

All settings are as default as can be & I don't even use a router password cuz dad lives in the sticks.

Anybody know for sure why this happens?

I don't have the answer for you, just a couple of suggestions.

1) If you want to stay on DHCP and it's shutting down after a certain period of time, it appears that you can do a scheduled reboot of the router in the Tomato Admin Panel. If it happens after a couple of days, you can set it to reboot once a day at night (for example) and it will give the DHCP server a chance to reset itself.

2) Set him up with manual IP addresses for his devices, no more worrying about DHCP.

Good suggestions! I didn't even think about scheduled reboot.

Actually, I've already left his house & he doesn't seem to have a problem so I figure it's probably a bit of an Apple thing. Who knows.

Thanks!
