I'm totally guessing, but I think refurbs of the current gen show up after they've announced/released the next version.

It doesn't take a complete product cycle before they start showing up, but it usually takes around six months or so. I'd say you've probably got another couple months to go.

That's better than an Apple refurb, usually. I suspect they'll knock $50 off the price of a new one.

However, when you buy a refurb iPad from Apple, both the back case and battery have been replaced, and it comes with a 12 month warranty and the option to purchase Apple Care.

Not sure how much refurbing goes in to a third party seller.

Also, iPad Air has been $449 kind of off and on since Christmas. It's entirely possible to get a new one for only $50 more.

I believe at Walmart it's 30 day return for refurb. Factoring that in, Apple store would be a much better buy even if it costs a little more.

I've bought a couple refurbed iPads and a MBP from Apple and other than the packaging I would have believed they were new. Plus several refurbed replacement iPhones, again looked brand new. I'm to the point that other than iPhone everything I buy I wait for refurbs but only directly from Apple.
