Yes I know but which one is value for money? Are both similar? ^_^

The ipad air will be considerably thinner and lighter and will run 3d games faster with more detail where those games are programmed to take full advantage of the Air's hardware. There will be some newer games that the ipad 4 will probably chug a bit on, but the overall use experience should be very similar. Web browsing, video streaming, and photo taking will be ever so slightly slower on the 4, but it may be so close there as to be imperceptible. So the relevant questions for your use case would probably by "How much does weight matter" and "How important is it to play the latest 3D games smoothly".

My mentality with iPads is to always buy the latest one. This is mostly because I don't feel they discount their older hardware enough to make it attractive to me. Also, If I'm already willing to pay $399, I might as well pay $499 and get the peace of mind that comes with knowing I'm not missing out on anything.

Unless you're the type of person who upgrades regularly, I'd suggest getting the Air. At some point the cut-off point for OS updates or even new features is going to be the 64-bit SoC.

The Air is also considerably lighter than the 4, so it has that going for it as well. Beyond that there isn't a lot of other differences, and for most things the performance difference in the SoC won't be that noticeable.

Oh... so you're one of THOSE people... :p

But yeah as people mentioned, the Air is better in every way except price. Faster, lighter, etc... Everyone's budget is different but I would pay a little more to get the Air. One may argue that they may not need the latest and greatest speed but the reduction in weight is something I can't ignore.

Is the official price difference $100 (assuming you are buying them new)? If so, I'd say the iPad Air is definitely worth that extra $100. The weight difference is dramatic, that combined with the rounded sides, makes it much nicer to hold.

If price is a concern, I'd buy the iPad Mini 2. Same specs, resolution, as the Air, just a smaller screen.

Color gamut is bleh (compare the iPad Air and iPad mini 2 side by side)

For real? 'I'd buy the iPad Mini 2. Same specs, resolution, as the Air, just a smaller screen.' Correct me if I'm wrong so the only difference is the screen size? Then why the hell not buy the mini 2? Plus it's $100 cheaper? I don't see that on eBay. I'll be using pound sterlings btw.

iPad Air over the 4 any day of the week. Definitely worth the $100.

As for iPad Air vs iPad Mini w/Retina. That's personal preference really. The Air has better color gamut and screen and for movies and content you may prefer the larger size. Personally I like the Mini w/Retina but all preference.

The reason not to buy the iPad mini Retina is because it's smaller. The iPad mini Retina is more portable because of the smaller size, but of course for a lot of people it's harder to read because it's smaller. YMMV.

I'd take the iPad Air over both the iPad 4 (heavy and worse specs) and the iPad mini Retina (small).

However, I'm waiting for the iPad Air 2. Hopefully it will come with a fingerprint sensor.

P.S. Here is the UK pricing on the various iPads:

http://store.apple.com/uk/ipad

£399: iPad Air
£329: iPad 4
£319: iPad mini Retina
£249: iPad mini

Dunno why you'd be looking at eBay. Just get it from Apple. And if you do not want to pay retail, you can go their refurb store here:

i have a hard time on this one.

in favor of the ipad 4--

1. some very good deals can be found. mostly to do with larger storage capacity. like 64gb for $400. and especially since retina, storage space is crucial. of course, music libraries aren't generally stored there.

2. classic ipad design.

im favor of ipad air: drastically thinner and most importantly quicker to recharge.

faster processor (though i dont really care at this point)

just saying that there are some very good deala on large capacity ipad 4's out there

How did you get it so cheap?

It's £339 for refurb and £379 at the Education Store in England.
