i'm not sure if this is a nationwide thing, but out here is the sf bay area there are literally hundreds if not thousands of the new ipads for sale...of course at marked up prices. i'm not saying that demand for the device isn't strong, but the initial flurry and sell out seems to be quite distorted out here, when there are guys selling 22 ipads in one cl ad, any color, memory or network configuration..not that i hope they all get stuffed since it is a free market, but maybe apple should consider limiting sales of new devices at least in the pre-order/first shipment phase to let more 'real' buyers get them...or maybe they like the overhyped demand!!

anyway, things look to be calming down now and my guess is that a lot of these are going to get returned for credit. i expect there will be inventory at stores well before the 3 week wait that is being talked about.

rant over...:)

like every other apple release, except this time apple has been making them for months and there seems to be plenty of supply

This is just how the determine selling prices. They see what going rates on Ebay are and base prices on that. :p

But there are legitimate reasons to buy multiple units, businesses use iPads more and more.
But I agree that douche nozzles that go out and buy a bunch of a product to turn around and resell it, really screw everyone. If they want to make money, they need to open a store and sell product and COLLECT AND PAY TAXES.

i guess since i am considering buying one of them (4g version, 32 or 64gb) this is the first time i have experienced the 'hype'...and i find it pretty interesting. i agree that in some cases there are legitimate reasons for buying multiple devices for business, but i would not call stocking 22 of them on a table and placing a cl ad legitimate...

anyway it looks like you can buy all you want at the same price as the store now, so most of these flippers may be waiting in line again at the apple store..but this time in the return line!

I had no problem getting one on Friday. Walked into BM store at around 1pm. They had about 60 left. No lines. They did say in the morning they sold out but they held a bunch over for after the initial crowd.

What is wrong with flipping them? I did not buy any iPad 3's, but I flipped ones and twos. Making money off of people willing to spend way higher than the retail price is what makes this country great. I made enough money off the iPad to buy a two month old 27" iMac. I had to chip in an extra $20 bucks to buy applecare cause the original owner lost the disks that came with it.

i don't think anything is wrong, was just observing the 'apple effect' for the first time. they are allowed to make money if the market will bear it, or just return them (or get stuffed) if it won't...sounds like this time there wasn't any easy money, but they still look like great tablets.

While not technically a fanboy, I am a big fan of Apple products. However, I cannot understand people who stand in line to by an iPhone or iPad, or, worse, pay crazy amounts for one through eBay or CL.

It is not like they are selling penicillin or the Walking Dead antidote, right?

Is it really that hard to wait another month, week or even day for such devices?

Yeah, I always like to wait a little while to see what the user reports on forums are like and for any little quirks to come to light.
