iPad 2 - "We Believe" Commercial

there is no tablet market. like netbooks - a fad. Apple IPAD however is an evolution of their successful product.

I saw that earlier today, it's a very good commercial, although they can save money by not advertising the iPad anymore, there's still lines a month after it's release 😀

i don't want flash. i've got many apple products and pc products. i flashblock(silverlight block) on everything. the security issues with adobe products is far too much.

remember IPAD != tablet
Macbook air != netbook

the tablet and netbook market were never really there. The IPAD+AIR market exist and are proliferating.

The ubiquity that HP can have with web/os will be the only challenger imo. They can put it on every device they sell - If there is any hope of competition it will be HP.

** everyone that says that about flash clearly has not used a multitouch PC with flash apps that are not touch optimized go to best buy and try to play a game you will be sad **

Consumers don't care about that. Most (if not all) of the things they want work.

Yeah... but the problem is that a lot of web sites DO NOT work without Flash. Just think of all of those Facebook games, promotional sites, and Video sites (both porn and non-porn related) that will not work correctly without it.

Personally, I use Flash on my Android smartphone at least twice a week to stream podcasts from TWIT and This American Life. Back when I had an iPhone, I had to find a WiFi connection and download those podcasts from iTunes because they were over 20 MB in size.

skyfire plays flash videos. so let's remove that.

the rest can be done in html5. flash for video is unnecessary unless it is a lazy choice. youtube doesn't require flash

That download limitation is up to the carrier.

You can go to the twit website and click download and it'll stream the podcast.

the 20 meg limit is apple. Not the carrier. anything through apple is limited to 20megs over air. so his podcasts through itunes are limited.

It's a reasonable limit given that most data plans now have caps of under 2GB. You wouldn't want to download on air like that anyways.

The only ones complaining are those on unlimited data plans.

I don't think they're a fad. Netbooks were an interesting case. They try to shoehorn desktop software and an outdated OS into a low-power form factor. They run, just not well. I expect tablets will be come more common. The iPad is an infinitely useful device. I tend to use it more than my laptop these days. It does everything a netbook does, better, and it's more portable.

The problem with Apple's competitors is pricing (I know, I'm shocked too) and software. Competing operating systems haven't really matured, and it's once again more shoehorning. Apple has a cheaper product and mature OS, with a strong software library. Now if Microsoft got their heads out of their arses and developed a proper tablet platform (no Windows 7), they'd be laughing. It's a shame they cancelled the Courier. They really had something there.

I have the same 20MB limit on my WinMoPho, anyone here have an Android phone on AT&T that can say if they can download more than 20MB over 3G?

They care about the endless potential that you have with an Apple device.

The potential to do only what Apple wants you to do? I don't want to thread crap, but that line is utter bullshit. Apple makes good products, there's no doubt about that. But their walled garden is protected with razor wire and you only get in if you agree to play by their rules and their rules are pretty strict. Lots of people are fine with that and that's their choice, but claiming "endless possibilities" is almost as bad as their "unix workstation" propaganda with regards to OS X, both are pretty much blatant lies.

I can download more than 20MB over 3G on my Samsung Captivate on AT&T.

And to add more to the discussion my iPad 2 on Verizon can't download more than 20MB from iTunes. But it's just iTunes that's affected by that limit. Youtube also had an imposed video quality limit that was recently remedied by the website having an option to force HQ video.

But honestly, I'm glad there's that 20MB limit. It makes sure I'm not running my allotment dry. AT&T's $15/250MB plan is absolute worst, and I really only ever need 3G outside to use GPS and check quick facts on Google.

The 20MB on your Captivate, is that on the marketplace too? The limits on iOS are only in iTunes and the App Store I believe.

If they are in place on the marketplace then it seems to be a joint decision between the carriers and the makers. Not sure why they are only limiting it on the stores, but there you go.

Nope. No limitation anywhere. Not even in the Market.

It's definitely a software limitation on iOS because you can remove that limit after you have jailbroken the device.

True. It's more for the carriers so that you don't overwhelm their network with 100MB+ downloads. (That's what I meant when I said it's for the carrier).

Agreed, aside from RIM, they're the only company that does the hardware and the software.
