iPad 2 and XBMC?

I recently read about XBMC for the iPad 2. I am definitely interested in jailbreaking my iPad 2 and install this software.

Can someone tell me which guide is the easiest to follow to install XBMC?

Is the latest version of XBMC optimized for the iPad 2? Which is the "best" version to install? I value stability.

Does XBMC support subtitles? If so, which formats does it support? What about Blu-Ray's PGS subtitles?

Any issues with XBMC that might make me consider buying GoodPlayer for iOS?

Right now my iPad have iOS 5.0. Which is the latest iOS update that I can install before jailbreaking it? I know the recent 5.1 won't work so I won't install it.

Thanks for the help!

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO:Install_XBMC_on_iPad/iPhone/iPod_touch

I followed this guide on an iPad 1 a few weeks ago, and it worked pretty well, albeit slightly slowly. (which is most likely not an issue on the iPad 2) That version has a touch control skin installed by default, so it really is designed for the iPad. I've used it on my iPhone 4, but the buttons were a bit too small. They are sized just fine on the iPad. I know for a fact that XBMC supports SRT and SUB files for subtitles, as well subtitles encoded into MKV files. One thing I find annoying is that it does not support soft subtitles in MP4 files. I do not know about PGS subtitles.

I wouldn't mind getting an Apple TV and jailbreaking it for XBMC. Can you add a hard drive to a jb Apple TV for local storage?

You could on the old Apple TV, but, to the best of my knowledge, there is no way to do this on the Apple TV 2 or 3.

I don't want hard/burned subtitles. I want soft subtitles so that I can turn it on or off if I want.

Are you using the Eden version of XBMC? Any other comment on XBMC? Is it as simple as loading up the app and then play the media? Can my videos be stored locally on the iPad 2?

Before you go through all the trouble, I would simply ask if you've considered a transcoding option available through the App Store, like Plex, Boxee or Airvideo.

The last time I used XBMC on the iPad it was... not wonderfully intuitive...

I've found that a transcoding server was way better, functionality-wise. No local storage that way, but I only use local storage if I'm going away on a trip for several days at a time and then I usually download divx versions of movies/TV shows so I can store a lot of them and OPlayer plays that fine.

I have 5.0 installed. Where can I get 5.0.1 so that I'll manually update it and then jailbreak that version of iOS?

I'm not 100% sure you can. Unless you saved your SHSH blobs, which I don't even know works for iOS 5, you won't be able to update to 5.0.1. I think it'll make you update to 5.1.

I don't want to consider any transcoding option because it's not going to be practical when I'm travelling. I want something that can play media on the iPad 2.
