After a long while trying to decide between Air 2 and Mini 4 I've decided to go for the refurbished deals on the former.

Currently I can get either Space Grey 64GB for £409 or Gold/Silver 128GB for £479.

I want to use it for videos, web browsing, music, photos, maybe some games. Basically, my primary multimedia hub.

How much free space is available on 64GB and 128GB iPads? Is it worth the extra £70 to double up storage?

My brother makes do with 16GB Air. I couldn't do that. 64GB definitely the minimum.

When you say movies, do you mean streaming movies or will you need to watch movies on your iPad even without an Internet connection? If you want to store a good amount of music and videos on your iPad, the 128 GB model is probably the way to go. That is precisely why I upgraded my wife from a 16 GB Air 1 to a 128 GB Air 2 - she wanted to take a large collection of movies and music on our vacations without having to take a laptop.

EDIT: I have about 46 GB left on my 64 GB model after migrating stuff from my 32 GB iPad 4. Believe I had 56 GB usable to start.

If you want to use it for the aforementioned purposes (videos, music, photos), the 128GB version is more than welcomed.

Even if you are going to stream videos and music, you will still want to have some of it stored locally, for offline usage.

Do you also own the best rotary phone on the market?

Simply saying something is the best in its market is never reason enough to own one.

I was somewhat joking, but if I am buying a tablet, it will be an iPad.

And yes, if I needed a rotary phone and the best had features warranting the cost premium, I'd buy it too. :D

I think if you have a large music or video collection, the 128GB will be much better. Especially if you're like me and have multiple albums encoded as Apple Lossless.

There are external drives coming out for iPad though like the Leef iBridge. They're a bit pricey but it's the closest replacement I've come across for the old camera kit. No jailbreak required this time.

Isn't the ipad with it's aspect ratio less than ideal choice for video player?

It's less ideal but the higher res negates any potential image quality issues. It's also much better for things like browsing and productivity compared to 16:9 tablets. The iPads also have some of the best screens in the industry. Probably only second to the AMOLEDs in the Tab S.

If you're like me and watch a lot of older shows, the 4:3 is the perfect size as that was the ratio used prior to television going HD. Most movies aren't 16:9 anyhow, so even with other tablets you'll still run into the same issue unless you get a version designed to fit that aspect ratio in which case they're cropping something out and if you've got a 16:10 tablet, you'll get some letterboxing on the screen with 16:9 content.

If it's to keep kids entertained, they won't care regardless of what you've got.
