My mother in law likes the way our Canon Pixma ip4000 printer prints over her older HP/Dell inkjet. Its been 3 years now and her printer is getting a little dated and has occasional problems.

The thing is I cant find the ip4000 anywhere for a good price. Anyone seen them at a local store? Staples by me is out.

The 5000 would be fine also want to avoid the new models.

Mooresville, NC outside charlotte.

Thanks

I think you waited just a bit too long. Now it's going to be eBay or used from the FS/T section here and elsewhere. New iP5000s have been going for list or more on eBay now. If your mom doesn't do a lot of printing, the new tanks will last a long time. And maybe by then the cloners will have RE'd the new tanks and inks - it's been about 3 months now, so they should have the tech down soon. I wouldn't worry as much about the new line as I would have back in early Sept. when they first began trickling out. Fewer of the new models have the dual paper paths with bottom casette than last year's line (unless they are just leaving them off in all the pix I've seen of them - so if you want that feature, you may have to step up the line a bit.
. Just be sure to ignore the "low ink" warning - press the continue button and use it right until it stops and claims that one or more colors are out. If she has brass ones, you can push the continue button again and keep on going. But after that last button push for a given tank, it may not warn you again until it thinks another tank has run out (the "ink low" warning will continue to pop up every time) so you'll have to be hawkeye for output changes - never want to let tanks run completely dry.

Thanks I felt that way myself but if there was a chance someone spotted them somewhere I would have rushed out to get one.

I will google and see what the progress is on the 4200 cartridges.

Let your fingers do the walking with local chains like office max, circuit city, and the like. Sounds like your sweet spot would be the ip3000, 4000, or 5000.----some are still under the counter or are demo units that might go cheap. Never know until you check.

But also know this---this week the MP780 is on sale at Office max for $200.---its the non chipped flagship multifunctional that prints, flatbedscans, copies, and faxes.----and its based on the ip4000 printer engine. Pretty pricey if she only needs a printer-----but really reasonable if she can use the additional features.-----I have a MP730 which is the previous generation similar and I love it.

I also heard that Fry's had some refurbished ip3000's for $50.

But the supply of non-chopped Canons is drying up fast--get em while they last----and don't bother googling the fix for the chip today cause it ain't happened today.
