IP35-E power problem

I recently built a new computer around the IP35-E. I remember reading some about the booting then shut off then reboot associated with the chipset(?), but about a week ago I went out and came back home to turn on my computer but nothing happened. I plugged everything in and out, reset the jumpers, everything - it wouldnt power (other than for 1 second then a shutdown again, like an initial power on and then nothing thereafter).

I figured maybe it was my FSP 430 watt psu, since the computer had spontaneous shutdown/restart problems right before this happened. I bought a corsair 520hx, and everything worked fine after having to reset the mb jumpers again. Last night, the same thing happened. No power from the button, this was after having shut down from the windows menu. I reset the power strip and then it again turned on for one second then off. I turned the strip on and off again. Then it booted up and the fans all sped up to 100% and span, like I had a bad overclock or bios setting. After this I reset the jumpers and thought to myself that it was maybe something with the MB, I randomly decided to flick the switch on the PSU and everything is working fine now.

Is this a common problem? If so how can I fix this. I dont mind the turn on, shut off, restart thing...but I would really prefer not to have to either keep my computer on 24/7 or manually reset the PSU switch every time this happens. This computer is new and for most the the time I have had it its been left on, but I dont usually do so
 
Sounds like you're falling victim to the Corsair 520hx compatibility issue that others have before you. Before coming to that conclusion though, what are you full system specs and we'll troubleshoot to make sure.
 
Flash to 12 BIOS. Clear CMOS and load Optimized Default in BIOS. Do you have any USB or PCI/PCI-E devices connected to the PC? Could also be a short on the case.

Which RAMs? Run Memtest86.

Always list name of all components.

I have a Corsair HX520 with my IP35-E without a problem. There is no compatibility issue with the two obviously. I can cold boot and restart without issues on my rig.
 
Hi, sorry I couldnt get to this earlier. Hopefully I can still get some additional help. The thing is this doesnt happen all the time. It seems random.

Hokie- This also happened with my previous FSP PSU. Except I (think) it died, and shutdown/restart on me, instead of me shutting it down then it not turning on.

Serpent- I have the most recent bios. I only have a USB mouse and a PCI NIC. There could be :S I didnt use any stand offs because the manual said there were special mounts built into my case. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16811147038)


The above case, Abit IP35-E, 2GB DDR2, Corsair 520hx, e2160, 8800gts, 320gb hd. I also have the latest bios.

Oh my god, are you kidding me? Use stand offs!

 
I second the standoffs. It takes just a few minutes to install them with needle nose pliers. Tighten like a spark plug; just snug. Not all motherboard holes need them. If a case hole doesn't line up, just leave it empty.

Actually, Yellowbeard, the Corsair rep that frequents the abit forums has stated there is a compatibility issue and engineers from abit & Corsair are working to resolve it. A lot of people have them working. That does not mean there isn't a compatibility issue, just that thankfully some don't have the problem.
 
Use supplied stand-offs. Also use the built-in LAN network. Issue could be the PCI card. Model number of RAM? Be sure to set memory voltage and timing per specs. Run Memtest86 to check RAMs.
 
The supplied standoffs dont fit into the mounts on the motherboard. Haha, yeah I feel stupid if that is the problem and this is the only time I have not used standoffs. I cant use the onboard lan because my ISP/cable modem has problems with the marvell chipset. I no longer have the case manual but I will see if I can find what it said about stand offs.

If the LAN is functional, then it should allow you to access the internet with any ISP. There is no such thing as ISP compatibility.

Test the MB outside the case.
