I upgraded to the latest 17 bios just before installing this cpu
when i boot to memtest86 or my os i get only 6MB of L2 detected
it's supposed to be 12

and when i enable all the cpu power saving features, then during post the bios says "detecting hyperthreading, enabling" and everything only reports 64KB of L2

any ideas ?

anyone had this problem ?

just e-mailed abit support:

I just purchased this cpu, and upgraded to bios 17 right before installing it.
when i boot into memtest86 or my os i am only getting 6MB of cache displayed while there is supposed to be 12MB of cache on this cpu.
Also if i enable everything in "CPU Feature" in the bios, it is displayed during post "Hyperthreading detected" and enables that. Then only 64KB of L2 is enabled.

My pc is barely usable in this state, everything is sluggish.

Is this a cpu microcode issue with the bios version, since this cpu is so new ?
or do i have a defective cpu ?

any help is much appreciated,
sterling

I was going to suggest running some benchmarks to see if the performance is where it's supposed to be (implying it is using all the cache just not reporting correctly) but then I saw you wrote it is barely usable.

I don't know what specific issues it solves but there is a bios v18 now that you might try, assuming the system is otherwise stable enough to chance a bios update.

Another thought is to try downgrading the bios in case some new bug were introduced with v17.
