To troubleshoot a problem, I was advised from various inputs on this forum to remove my two 2GB sticks and just use one, in slot #4.

For no other reason other than wear and tear, and reaching in thru everything, I was wondering if I should move back to 1&4, or can I leave the one stick in #4 and use #2 for the second one?

Will this make any difference?
Unlikely, but why risk it?

What do you suggest? Thanks, Chris.

Just being in a socket does not wear it out, continuously removing memory and reinserting it does if you do it enough times. I'm guessing what those "various inputs" were trying to tell you that if you have two memory sticks you should use them in dual channel configuration, which is usually slot 1&3 and 2&4.

You want to put both sticks in 1/3 or 2/4, your system probably wont recognize all 4GB of memory due to 32 bit limitations(assuming you are using 32 bit like most people, look up other threads for that reasoning)

The only wear and tear you'd have to worry about is moving them many, many times.
