What do you think about an ip reduction law based upon % of r&d costs? i think it would be a good idea to have it reduced to zero over 8 years. i would prefer it be repealed immediately, but most would like to see what it would be like first.

basically, something like the first year it would be 90%, then the 2nd and 3rd years it would be 75% of R&D costs, then 50% for the 4th, 5th, and 6th years, then 10% the 7th. the reduction law would then have all IP repealed the 8th year, unless Congress chooses to do otherwise. i am against it sunsetting back to the way things were because that would favor positive rights over negative ones.

this was not my idea, but it is probably the most simple form of ip reduction that would work and would either prove only the apologists for big R&D right or it would prove right only those who say ip does not help innovation.

it would probably also stimulate the economy in the short term and if people saved their money from the stimulation then everything would be fine when ip dwindled to zero.

it would only apply to copyrights and patents while the reduction law would abolish all other forms of IP like trademarks.

Yes by all means let's destroy any incentive for a person or company to invent something.

Though I'm sure you would have the exact opposite opinion if it was your livelihood that would be destroyed by such a law.
