Hi i get these annoying ip popup msgs(not IE popups). I was wondering if there is anyway to stop this insanity? Please help!!

Hey, that's not the problem here. LuDaCriS66 did post one of the correct answers... the better answer is to make sure you've got your firewall setup right.

It's the newest form of spam -- netsend. Get your firewall working and turn off your messenger service and the problem will end.


But, this question gets asked, what, 3-5 times EVERY DAY. Kinda like the "which virus scanner would you recommend" question which gets asked 3-5 times every day... Before posting, it's always good to check and see if the question's already been asked. After all, it's extremely likely that you're not the first person who's seen this problem. There is lots of good information already available here on AT without repost after repost after repost after ....
 
And if you have a router or firewall, you could make sure that port 139 is blocked. This will prevent any incoming messages. At the same time, you will not have to shut off your messaging service.

In his defense the search engine does suck some salty nutz. I was looking at and article about Adaware 6 earlier today, come back to find it and the search turns up nothing. "Adaware" "ad aware" I had to search for aware to find it, then I get hit with a whole bucnh of them, and they all have the key words "Adaware" and "ad aware". I found it after 4-5 tries, but one cant be blamed for the lacking search engine

Nothing annoys me more than wanna be forum cops lurkin forums and tellin people to use search functions and they should "do this or that"........why do they do it? Well...they say thier trying to do the people that run the site a favor and "help save bandwidth"....but by posting the crappy wannabe forum cop post....what are they doing?...Yea taking up bandwidth.

My guess is these people have no freinds and no life......they were the ones that got beat up in school for funny shoes. So to feel better they troll forums trying help lay oreder and do the bandwidth god a favor.....:|

No, we do it because we don't read these forums to see the same 5 questions asked over and over again. People like AndyHui put a lot of time into the FAQs at AT and noone reads them because it's easier to post than to do 10 minutes worth of reading/searching.

You really need to chill dude. If everyone posts the same question multable times, then there will be less space for the legitimate posts that have not already been answered. It is already quite busy here, and pushing the ligitimate threads down just makes it so people repost more. it is a never ending cycle.
