IP Grabbing

I have a N600 Netgear Router connected to a Surfboard Cable Modem. I have some 4 Smart TVs, a DVR Security System, and 2 AVOV android steaming boxes all directly CAT5e connected through TP Gigabyte Switches. Everything seems to work great except my Security System DVR. Setting it up establishes an IP and I can view it as an attached device with my router. The DVR requires Port Forwarding so as to be viewed on Mobile or Network. Problem is when one of the Android AVOV units is switched on it also grabs the same IP as the DVR (actually assumes it as the DVR is no longer listed in the attached device list). I didn't think this possible. The only way I have found to remedy this is to leave the Android AVOV box on Wireless setting but then sacrifice stability in streaming. my question of course is when a IP is established by one device, how can another grab and use the same?

Do any of the devices have static IP addresses assigned? If so, those devices will use their assigned IP even if the DHCP router has assigned it to something else, and that could cause the problem you are describing. The security system needs a fixed IP for the port forwarding, so either assign it an IP address outside of the DHCP address range, or manually reserve that IP address on the router so it can't be assigned to another device.

Log on to your router config page, set up a "reserved IP number" for the DVR. You have to do this when DVR is connected, so you see it's MAC address. Then setup port forwarding to that IP number.

When I first installed the DVR & Security System, I had no problem with setting the Network on DHCP. Now, even after talking to BKR Brands and First Alert, I have had to leave in on Static IP setting because DHCP will not get IP for whatever reason. I will try suggested setting and report back.

As for MAC addresses, it seems that the Netgear Router displays completely different MAC address than the devices. I have to find the device by connecting and disconnecting. Why is this?
