IP Camera & Local Network

I recently purchased an IP Camera to be used for Home Security.

I have the Ethernet Cable run from the IP Camera to a PoE Switch, and then another cable run from the PoE Switch, non PoE port, to a laptop. The laptop does not connect to the internet.

My question is what do I need to do now to view my camera and start recording?

The Camera is a Vivoteck FE8172V...

You have to look for compatible PVR/DVR software that works with IP based cameras. Are you using Windows or Linux?

Not connected to the Internet probably means just that. He either chose not to connect the laptop to the Internet to prevent intrusion, or just wants local access to the laptop. There are plenty of older security systems that still use Windows 98, so it's a wonder. 😉

Yes that is correct, for this application I choose not to connect my laptop to he internet.....

I am using WinXp....

I don't see a router or DHCP server in your configuration, so you will need to assign IPs to the laptop and camera.

IP Webcam viewer to view and a external or laptop with blue iris to record. If i were you id set it up to record when you tell it to remotely. That way you get the motion alert (or record on motion) and then you have it if the motion isn't someone you know or that breaks in
