I couldn't really find a good forum for this so I decided to post it here...

Alright well you know how we have routers? ok well when we have a router it sets a IP ADDRESS to every machince connected with the router with the beginng of the IP number six numbers such as 192.168 then something like 2.3 or whatever for each individual machine. Now my question is.....how then can i use things such as Remote Desktop? Use my computer as an FTP? What if someone else has a router with 192.168 and then an individual machine set at 2.3....is this possible? If this is confusing sorry and please say so....
 
To run an internet accessible server on a machine on the LAN you'd simply have the router forward traffic on the relevant ports to this machine.

192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x & 172.16.x.x are internal IP ranges reserved for intranets. They are not routed on the internet (so no conflicts can occur).
