iOS - Custom alert/sound on email

We have a system here where users with blackberry's get a loud notification when a particular email comes through from one address. Since some staff are migrating away from blackberry to iOS or android, we are looking for a different way of doing this. Is this possible? I know it can be done with SMS or phonecall, but anything for email?

Or is there a good (cross-platform) app that we can use to notify employees of an event?

Yup, but I need a custom alert for an email from ONE contact.. The idea being, certain employees need to know when there is an emergency, which is sent to them from one email address.
 
Ah, I didn't see that part. You can set an alert for your VIP contacts, but I'm not sure if that meets your needs. The Gmail app sends notifications too.
