iOS 9 on iPad mini 1

I have searched the forum and also the internet, but I cannot find anyone who can tell me if it is a good idea to upgrade to iOS 9 if you use a mini 1. Right now I am using iOS 7 (because I was stupid to upgrade from the super fast iOS 6😳). I would like some of the features of iOS 9, but I don't want my iPad to get too slow.
Is it a good idea to upgrade?

iOS 7.1.x is the sweet spot for the mini. Runs pretty well. iOS 9.1 is very slow on it.

Do not upgrade

This is based on the speed on my iPad 2, which has the same specs as the iPad mini 1. You'll eventually have to upgrade for compatibility reasons but you should hang onto iOS 7.1.x as long as possible.

OTOH, if you are on iOS 7.0 it's tougher since 7.0 is also pretty slow.

From the videos I've seen, the older the device the biggest the performance delta from 8.4.1. That's lower. Most of the cool iOS 9 stuff isn't available on the mini 1 anyways.
