- The icons that are displayed while a user is in a call have been slightly altered with the addition of circles around the icons. They also appear to be larger.

Ugh. I think my first jailbreak task would be to install iOS "Classic" theme. :\

I would give it some time, the new icons fit in well with the overall aesthetic direction of the OS.

Icon for Icon comparison, FWIW.

For me, I like the new Messages, Phone, Mail, Weather and Music icons.
I prefer the old Camera, Safari and Settings icons.

Those updated icons are significantly better than the previously posted ones and I agree fully with your opinion surrounding icon preference.

There is still time yet for Apple to tweak them further.

Am I the only person that doesn't care what the icons look like as long as I can differentiate them from one another? =(

I guess eventually through use, you'll ignore the little niggles you had at the beginning regarding the icons and forget about it.

I'm still surprised that Apple hasn't implemented the ability to create themes for iOS. Just make it so you can sell them on the App Store... or probably some other segmented area to avoid clutter. The only annoyance is that Apple would have to definitely curate it because they can't allow people to make themes with unlicensed content, nudity, etc.
