For me, it is. Opening a text FROM WITHIN THE MESSAGING APP takes 5 or more seconds.

Actually, I'm thinking you're right. The more I use it on the iPhone 4, the more I'm noticing pauses and occasional stutters. It's not as bad of a slowdown as when we upgraded the 3G to iOS 4, but it does seem like there some slowdown.

It's enough for me to wish I could downgrade back to iOS 5.1.1.

iOS6 seemed to speed up my iPad 2, vs. iOS 5.1.

The maps application is lame, though. I used to be able to see all of the buildings of my alma mater in Google Maps, but it's just a beige blob in Apple Maps.

I don't have that problem - All my texts were deleted in the update process.

I tried selling my 3GS when I got my iPhone 4 (and the 4 had been out for a few months) and couldn't even get peanuts for it. I eventually gave it to a friend whose 3G had just died.

That, and I hate iOS6 THAT MUCH. No upgrade has been a step backwards in functionality before; iOS6's app store is a pain to use now and sluggish as all get out, and the maps app is useless. Can't even do transit anymore. I don't understand how Apple thought this was worth shipping. Are they really totally clueless without Jobs around? The only thing Apple seems capable of right now is amazing hardware, and even that they manage to mess up with stuff like the rMBP not being at all serviceable.

I don't plan to find out, I like my google maps on my ipad 2...I plan to not move to iOS6 on the ipad until Google maps is available.

Tangential question: CAN google maps exist on iOS, or will apple reject it since it duplicates in box behavior?

2) Fullscreen mode in Safari

iOS 6 boos:

1) No StreetView
2) Harder to look for **** in the Maps app
3) Blue status bar
4) Too many options in Settings app
5) The new white-blue higher contrast gradient graphic for Safari, Settings, etc...
6) New sound "engine"
7) App Store search is a huge waste of screen space (1 app at a time) and bandwidth (loads screenshots for all apps at once)
8) New Maps API is wildly inaccurate
9) WIFI authentication issue (now resolved)

...and I can go on...

Well, in iOS 5, you only had to enter it once when you need to mass-update everything, so I don't think it's that big of an issue.

But it's nice indeed.

iOS6 doesn't support 3GS or iPad 1 due to the tech limitations. The iPhone 4 is the lowest end device the OS supports, so I would expect some slow downs.

iOS 6 is supported on the 3GS.

P.S. One thing I hate about Mail in iOS 6 is that it gives the "Sent" sound even when it hasn't sent it yet. In iOS 5, if it made that sound it meant it actually sent it.

Well, in iOS 5, you only had to enter it once when you need to mass-update everything, so I don't think it's that big of an issue.

But you have to do it each time. So if you have apps that update every day for a week, you have to enter the password in every day for a week. I have even had to enter the password for updates 3 or more times a day on busy update days.

With iOS6, you NEVER have to enter in the password for updates or free apps (if everything works right).

Sorry about that hard to tell rumor from fact around apple product launches. It seems the iPad 1 is the major device that was axed.

I'm not sure that everything upgraded ok with my phone. I'm almost afraid to open applications anymore because they tend to lock up my phone and force me to reboot. I did a full wipe and restore, but I"m still getting this issue with half a dozen applications (like twitter, email, and the app store).

Last weekend I was cooking and using the timer on my phone to keep track of how long it has been in the oven when I tried to post on twitter that I was cooking. The phone locked up and I lost my timer. Not a happy camper right now. I have a iphone4

Yeah, not even touching this with my iP4. My wife updated her 4s and it seems ok. The original 4 seems to be not taking the update well.

Probably a wise move. After a couple of really bad updates to some of my older devices I generally take a "wait for bug fixes" approach these days. You never know when Apple will say this is the last update for your device. If it happens to be a broken update it can suck rather badly.

Yeah... I can remember how much iOS 4 screwed up my old iPhone 3G a few years ago. It made me angry enough to replace it with an Android phone.

If I was one of those tinfoil hat conspiracy theory types, I would think that Apple WANTS your old phone to run slowly in order to convince you to get a new one.
