I was able to successfully jailbreak my iPhone 5. Now I can reinstall BiteSMS, which is basically the only thing I want. Yay!

I jailbroke my iPhone 1 back in the day, but it was really unstable, so ended up dropping it. But there are some utilities out there now that I want, so I'm going to give it another go on my 4.

psssh... Who actually uses Linux as a desktop OS?

/runs

Seriously though, I figured the amount of people who would be interested in the Linux version would be so fractionally insignificant that it wasn't worth copying and pasting the links.

Poor Cydia is completely slammed right now. It'll be a while before the load dies down enough to use it.

While jailbreaking, my iPhone 5 locked-up on a screen with the Evad3rs logo. That's apparently normal. I just held Home+Lock to reboot. Seems fine except that Cydia is slammed.

MMi said it's "genius" that the JB uploads cached app lists so there's less load on Cydia's server. I think that's actually pretty dumb. Why should Team Evad3rs have to host a larger download with greater capacity? Isn't it Saurik's / Jay Freeman's / Cydia's responsibility to increase capacity to handle the load?

[edit]
My iPad mini also locked-up on the "Finding offsets..." screen. Did the force reboot and jailbreak was done. My friend's iPhone 4 did not freeze. Went smoothly.

Nah. TetherMe enables native tethering and is much leaner and affordable. It changes APN settings so tethering traffic is routed through the APN that regular data travels through.

Contrary to what you may have heard, TetherMe is no more detectable by your provider than MyWi. A lot of people thought AT&T "detected" hack tethering when they got a warning from AT&T. Actually, AT&T bluffed. They sent that message to lots of high-data-use subscribers, and some definitely were not tethering and many were not even jailbroken.

My jailbreak worked (after a hard reset to fix a bad restore backup) but it broke app store and had boot issues (got stuck 3/4 times). I went back to stock :/ (missing Safari background audio from 6.0...)

  • What device do you have?
  • In what way did it break the App Store?
  • What kind of "boot issues?"
  • "Missing Safari background audio from 6.0" <-- what do you mean "from 6.0?" Long before iOS6, I could leave Safari while something is playing and it would pause. Then, I could activate playback numerous ways (headset controls, lock-screen controls, switcher controls, etc) and Safari would play in the background.

Based on what crab0 said, I just tried to reboot. It's stuck on the Apple logo much longer than usual. I'm scared. :(

[edit]
Unplugged the USB cable and rebooted by holding Home+Lock. Booted right up.

[edit]
Plugged-in the USB cable, powered-off, and rebooted again. Booted right up.

They did say it was fine if it locks up during the jailbreak. I guess each time you reboot it could lock up, and all you have to do is force reboot. If that's all I have to deal with for an untethered jailbreak, then I'm OK with that!

The jailbreak worked just fine for me on an iPad 3. It didn't freeze and I haven't had any issues so far. I'll be trying it on my iPhone 4 tomorrow and will report results.

Worked for me and I don't even know what I'm doing or why I'm doing it....yet. ;)

I read a brief description of shsh, and is this something I should be backing up now after jb'ing and if so, how is best?
