iOS 4.2 released today

Apple is usually pretty good about the 10am time, they probably have an automation (set a time and walk away). You might get a few minutes of no update showing as it has to propagate.

Find my iPhone/iDevise is going to be a really nice freebie feature for new buyers.
 
Looks like the Jailbreak is ready to go as well. Ahhhh... I can update my iPad with everyone else today. 😀

i'm so pathetic. lol. i never thought i'd be sucked in by the apple hype machine. now i just need to figure out a way to have my ipad break down by the time the next generation of hardware comes out.
 
is there anyway to download the file without pluggin your ipad in? I'm at work and I want to remote into my home computer and start the download, so I can just upgrade when I get home.
 
If you can SSH into home you can just 'curl' it from your home computer via the file link on the e-lite.org site.
 
My ipad wont is now stuck in recovery mode and when it tries to restore with 4.2, it says "The iPad cannot be restored at this time because the iPad software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable."

Ah the joys of Apple having an activation server. So dumb.
 
Been running it on the iPad for a few weeks now (gold release). Biggest complaint, the lock switch to mute switch move. Grrrrr.

Multitasking is always running, so just exit an app and go into another. Then double tap the home button to switch between apps.

You can create folders by dropping one app onto another.

I had that a while ago too. In my case, it was because I had downgraded previously using cydia's shsh blobs which requires you to alter a file so it can check cydia for authorization instead of apple. Well I forgot to change it back, so I had to delete that file and try again. I doubt that's your issue, but if you ever had to do such a thing like that then you might have forgot to change it back too.
 
using the new mute button does nothing. if i'm playing pandora or itunes and toggle the switch, the mute symbol comes on but the sounds continues.
