iOS 4.1 is live now.

Oh baby, the new bluetooth profiles are going to make me so happy! Next and Previous track selection, something other devices have had for 5 years!
Good enough for me though.

Any word on the iPhone 4 proximity sensor? I know they listed it as a bug fix - but does it actually help?

The iOS 4.1 upgrade seems a lot snappier on my iPhone 3G.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Apple knew that iOS 4.0.x's performance sucked on the 3G before they shipped it, though, but decided to ship it for 3G anyway. Who knows, some people inside Apple might have hoped that the slow performance of their old phone would help convince them that it was time to upgrade to the iPhone 4.

Sorry Apple, but your flaky "upgrade" only succeeded in pissing me off. As soon as Verizon has an Android phone as good as the Evo 4G, I'm defecting to the Android camp. Test your shit better before releasing it next time.

Can't find any news about what you're talking about... care to explain?

The bluetooth profile they used prior to this update was limited, as it only allowed you to play/pause a track when connected to a car's bluetooth system. They've now added support to their AVRCP implementation which allows you to skip tracks using your car's controls.
I don't know if I used the right terminology, but all I know is that all I could do in my Mazda before was hit play and pause, had to switch tracks via the iPhone(3GS). Now the Next and Previous track buttons work in the car too! My old Touch Pro2 did that stock, two years ago.
Its the little things sometimes.

iOS 3 was a dog on the iPhone2G (original) as well...running the latest OS on 2 year old piece of hardware doesn't seem to be working out to well.

I'll keep upgrading yearly as long as I get the full subsidy and can sell my old one for $200-$300.

i wonder if its just me....
with ipod touch 3G, some of my songs stutter and skip like a CD would....even though they are fine playing in itunes. i went from 3.1.3 to 4.1 btw. even after wiping the ipod touch clean and restoring as a new ipod, the problem shows up in other songs.
