Anyone know about these things? I was up late watching TV and saw this thing come on. I womdering if this stuff works and how safe if it is. This thing creates an ozone, if there is too much people can get sick from it right? Im just lazy and don't want to dust my room every month and looking for an alternative.

I don't know about the ozone thing, but when I got air purifiers installed in my old house, the guy recommended electrostatic over ionic, whatever that means. Electrostatic have been great. I do use ionic hair brushes for my dog from Sharper Image.

If you do decide to buy one, go to Eb@y. There's dealers there selling at about half price. Wish I'd have seen that before I bought mine...

Batti, how do you like it? I've been eyeballing one for a while now. The normal air purifiers are just too loud to keep in my room when I sleep.

I got an Ionizer (a living air breeze) it owrks great for getting rid of Odors, Smoke, and other crap, but you'd better get that dustbrush, or HEPA Vacuum Cleaner, beacuse all the particles drop like crazy. I bought an Air Filter after i got this thing, just to help minimize dust and dirt!! Mine does a 2500 Sq foot room, on high. I've never had it past 10% because the Ozone Smell makes me sick. The one I have an an RF Emitter which is supposed to ward off dust mites, and other microscopic insects, but i'm not too sure about that. I just know it works wonders for a house with 3 chain smokers, and Mold!!

Am I missing something? I'm not attacking you, mattyrug, just tryin to figure out how the thing works.

Thanks for the eGay tip.. lots of em on there for very good prices.

well, kind of, it Ionizes the Particles that are in the Air, most of them dissolve into samller particles, but the ones that aren't, when discharged, and fall to the floor, or stick to the wall. The Ozone created (which to my understanding) is a (positive) side effect of Ionizing, or Neutralizing the air. which is what sterilizes, and pruifies the air as well. Which is I guess why Ozone is called a "Natural Bleach"!!

I've read some interesting studies of side effects that these things can cause, when used in the wrong enviornment, such as poorly ventilated houses, where the Air, and house is actually too Clean, and people are easily affected by allergens. How true this is?? I'm not sure, but the company that makes mine says to not run it all the time because of this. One cool thing about it is that it will remove odors, because Ionization penetrates most materials, and can get odors out of things like Beds and Couches, hell it worked on my stinky A$$!!

I was watching a 20/20 or Prime Time show about those 'ozone' air cleaners. Basically they are a piece of junk & can be dangerous to your health. Ozone (O3) is a very highly reactive substance that is mainly used to purify water. It will react with bacteria, viruses, and other unwanted substances in the water to purify it.

That being said, ozone that is being used in water filtration is then filter so that excess ozone is not present because ozone is a very reactive substance and is very dangerous to breath in. If you can smell a clorine like smell while your running ozone, you are breathing ozone.

Stick with the HEPA air filters, much safer.

Cheers,

Aquaman is right, you should minimize your exposure to ozone. The best combo is a hepa filter with ionizer. Just hepa filter is a close second. A distant third is just an ionizer.

mattyrug is correct about the dust. The negative ions attach to the dust particles. They are then to heavy to float around and fall out. Ask anyone that has one. I can attest to it!

thanx frenchie!! i definately know, i've had one for quite some time. Prolonged Exposure to Ozone is not recomended, definately right, but Ozone is a necessary evil in the balance of nature!! I Would have to say that an Ionizer, placed low in the room, (floor or such) in combination with a HEPA filter is the best, but still, HEPA Filters still don't get all the Particles, they tend to just recirculate most stuff right back into the air, because most Airborne Irritants are smaller than 0.3 Microns, and HEPA Filters can't filter all of these particles. Ionizers can discharge particles as small or smaller than 0.001 microns, but they wind up on the floor, or stick to the wall. I agree with Frenchie, t your best bet is an Ionizer, and HEPA Filter, or you can do what we do, run the Ionizer and Dust every other day. Until they can make HEPA Filters to catch smaller stuff, they just won't clean the air. I say Open a Window!! I only use my Ionizer when we are smoking, and man do I have to clean the Brown Dust constantly!!
