HEPA removes particles that are smaller, although some people are happy either way.

Should not smell of ozone, i dont think?

Is that link supposed to have some significance? Are you making some sort of vague attempt and making the IB out to be a scam? Please elaborate instead of posting meaningless google links.

Or were you pointing to the "Complaint Station" link? You know the one with such comments as:

No complaints at all.As 2 of us live in an apartment, both smokers with 2 cats, there was always a nasty odor entering after a day at work. This product works.
or
I've got 2 units in my house and they work GREAT. I'm totally satisfied.

Looks like you edited out the link:

He came here asking if it worked. What is the point of these forums if we can just go to google for everything. He can get first hand opinions from here.

I have been using an Ionic breeze for several months now. I got one for Christmas. Took it back to college with me, had it in the dorm room. After about 3 days, I cleaned about a pound of dust off the collection plates (figuratively speaking). I kept doing this every 4-5 days. It *Does* work, very well mind you. It also removes bad odors from the air, and leaves a fresh, clean scent, as well as circulating air. I have absolutely no problems with it, and I would recommend it to anybody.

I've just heard that all the electro static filters do (my mom has one) is filter the larger particles.

I still have allergies at my moms. At home I get sweet relief with HEPA filter during my allergy season.

I may be wrong. . . .

I know that in clean rooms they use hepa filters, not electrostatic ones.

Yep you are right, looks like people by and large have a good experience with them. My mom's electrostatic IS NOT a sonic breeze, it is late and I stand corrected :p

Here is something from the EPA's website regarding air cleaners and ozone. . .

http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/airclean.html

It looks like if you don't maintainaince or something it may produce it? But I don't see how it could accumulate enough to do anything but barely notice the smell nearby? Most houses are not sealed that tight for air exchange. . .

Ah, didn't know that, but I should've figured.

Well, regardless, it's not un-safe. You do realize they make machines that specifically generate ozone, right? ... although its true that its dangerous above a certain point.

20. What is the fresh scent the Ionic Breeze sometimes produces?
That faint scent is ozone (O3), a molecule consisting of three oxygen atoms. It is a common component of outdoor air. The U.S. government has set safe standards for ozone and the Ionic Breeze GP complies with those standards.

21. Is the Ionic Breeze GP or Quadra an "ozone generator"?
No, they are not. An ozone generator is a device specifically designed to produce large amounts of ozone as its primary method of treating and removing odors from indoor air. The EPA regards such ozone generators as unsafe for home use. The Ionic Breeze GP and Quadra, in contrast, release only small, trace amounts of ozone ? sufficient to eliminate many common household odors but insufficient to cause any concern. Because this amount is so small and incidental, Ionic Breeze Silent Air Purifiers are considered not to be ozone generators. Ionic Breeze GP and Quadra are electrostatic air cleaners that meet all government standards for safety, including ozone release.

The Ionic Breeze complies with U.S. safety standards for low ozone emission (less than 50 parts per billion). We recommend that individuals with a history of respiratory disease consult their doctor about possible heightened sensitivity to very low ozone.

yeah, whatever. I have one, and its ability to completely remove ALL odors from a room is impressive.

I read a couple of reports about the Ionic Breeze, one from Consumer Reports.

While the attorneys from the company that makes Ionic Breeze doesn't want to see the info made public, the studies concluded that running an Ionic Breeze in a room had NO observable effect on air quality.

I assume Consumer Reports won't deliberately lie to us.

Then what's all the black gunk and crap that accumulates on the bars? Does it produce it itself just to make it look like it's doing something? Or maybe I'm just imagining it.

Also, Consumer Reports is jsut a bunch of people expressing their opinions on products. Same as anyone else expressing their findings. Why people think their informatino should be taken as if it came from God it a mystery to me.

Here's what to do:

Buy it
Use it
If you like it Keep it
If you don't, return it.

End of story.

That is one of the most stupidest replies I have seen this week.

The reason Consumer Reports is respected is because they do indepth tests and show the complete results and methodology for the testing which are then verified by other independant testing facilities and said tests are easily repeated.

I suppose you would only take the manufacturer's test as the best one, right?

Pros for Ionic Breeze
- silent operation, no loud annoying fans
- low energy consumption, less than 15W of power consumed
- most importantly, no need to replace any filters. The cost of consumables always inflate cost of a product

Cons
- generates ozone. The amount generated is well below the limits specified by the EPA, so should not be a concern. If you find the smell annoying, just turn the unit so the front is facing the wall and the ozone scent goes away.
- not as effective as fan based filter systems. Since there is no active method of air flow, it does take longer for the Ionic Breeze to clean a room. But really, who needs to recirculate the air in your room once every 10 minutes.

there is an additional advantage to O3 generators not yet mentioned. if you put the O3 generator in your kitchen you will find a decrease in mold on fruits and breads etc.

The Ionic Breeze is great for removing odors while generating almost no noise. It will never compare to a HEPA filter for removing dust and allergens, but those will need to be replaced and are loud. Pick what's important to you.

The CR report compares it to other HEPA filters and of course the IB will lose out every time. It's not a "real" air purifier per se.

I think FrankyJunior bought a Bose system because the salesman showed him how good it sounded in the store...
