I think its awesome that somebody put out a 2.5D game. Makes me want to go back and play Marathon(s) again.
 
from someone who's been playing FPS practically non-stop for the last 8 years, i gotta say, that game doesn't look in any way frantic. if anything, boring .. i turned off the demo before watching the whole thing.
from the way it plays, it more looks like a tactical shooter, i don't know if it plays the same, with mobs doing high damage but being few and easy to take out from a specific position. but it's nothing compared to old Doom, with tons of mobs shooting at you from all sides from the word go.

The demo in that link is obviously being played by somebody that has the game memorized. They know where every little thing is. Not sure what PVE FPS games you are playing, I can't even think of any that have been made for a long time. But this looks and feels like Duke Nuk'em. You mention Doom, but Doom was NOT known for its NPC AI.
 
in my link or in the OP ? my link is obviously a speedrun, if anything, that should give you a sense of what the game can be.

it's just that you guys don't know it exists.

and yes, many PvE FPS have been made since 1997.
