Anyone know if these drives support CD-Text? My plex 8 speed does, so I am assuming these do, but can anyone confirm before I open it up?

Anyone checked Fry's? Last time I called, they had a bunch in Burbank! They do pricematch with CompUSA, and they do reserve them for you for like a day.

Anyone know if there is a way to cancel an order via the CompUSA website (I cant find any...just order status). Just called to cancel my online order and they said they had a high call volume and it hung up on me.

Anyone have an extra rebate coupon for the Iomega drive?

The links to the coupons on Iomega's site will not open for me, the pdf files are bad. Anyone else having this problem?

OK I checked all the CompUSA's and Best Buy's in my tristate area and no one has anymore and they're not doing the raincheck thing.

So who wants to sell one to me? Please email me, Thanks

Dam I wish I knew about this yesterday

Blackhawkfan -- why not just fix your system? Why do people put up with fouled up Windows then complain that things don't work! Try uninstalling it and reinstalling. If that doesn't work, time to do a new-year format and reload of your windows to clean all the crap off you have installed!

So is there anyone out there trying to change this screaming hot
deal into one even hotter? That is, by modifying the identification
string on the Iomegas so they look (to the system) like Plextors?

This has already been done for the Iomega 8x20 drives and for the
HP 40X CDrom (both rebadged Plextors). The HP modification came
about very quickly. You should be able to use the same code with
a change in the swap strings (I'd guess)...How 'bout it? Anyone?

If the ID is changed, then you can use this drive with Plextools
AND you won't have to worry about select CD writing software that
recognizes the Plextor drive but not the Iomega.

People shouldnt *have* to put up with a fouled Windows system but I digress ;) It is true that a reinstall is usually a good idea after a long period of time even though it is a pain in the ass. The only windows 9x systems I know of that dont get totally messed up are the ones where the initial OS install is done and the hardware barely changes and hardly an software is installed.

I'll give it a go once I get my drive and get the correct ID string from someone who owns a real Plextor 12/10/32. Anyone care to get their ID string and paste it in here? (i may be in another thread but I'm lazy).

Phew, after a long couple of days and having visited 3 CompUSAs, I managed to just pick one up at the BB in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. They had 2 left as of 12:30 PST. Every other BB is pretty much out according to the inventory according to one of the sales reps.

A heads up for those who missed out, the guy at the West LA store said they had 14 more en route to arrive Thursday. However, who knows whether they will sell them for $129 then, since the CompUSA deal would have expired.

Well I'm happy, as I thought I would never snag one at the rate they were selling. Thanks to all the people involved in bringing this to our attention.

Happy New Year!

Just got back from the Fry's in Manhatten Beach and they had these in stock for $259. They will not pricematch CompUSA or BB though. Heard the manager say that this is from Corp. Office and that you would have to bring in a receipt or something to pricematch. The CompUSA in Culver City is out and didn't get anymore out on the shelf today. Talked with Hector Mgr. and he said that there is no rainchecks on this item, I said that they are supposed to give Rainchecks for items on sale and out of stock. No go, but gave me his business card and said that maybe they will get more in tomarrow and that maybe the price will still be $129. Ya sure, what a bunch of BS from a Mgr.

diehlr,

The only plextor ID string I could find is "Plextor CD-R PX-W1210A", I don't know if this is complete and correct. Maybe someone else could verify this?????????

I would like to modify this ID to read as a plextor also.

Thanks

Here it is folks.
I called BB in Southfield Mich. they said they had one left;so I told them I would be in to pick it up and to hold it and they said no prob. I go back to get it and ask the guy if they'll pricematch it and said go to the service desk so I did. I ask the lady at the service desk to pricematch it and I handed her a copy of Compusa's web page showing the sale. She tells me she has to talk to the manager and to wait. She comes back and said they could pricematch it for me. Now she scans the price and it says $129.00. I thought cool already matched. Then she takes off another $30.00 I thought to myself this is unreal and said to her the price on the web page was $99.00 after the MIR and the sale price is $129.00 and she said the manager said to sell it for the price on the web page.I thought to myself what a way to start the year I'm getting this for $69.00 after MIR.Man can you believe that. Then I asked about getting a raincheck and she said go back to the computer dept and ask them for one so I did.I told the guy at the desk I would like a raincheck for this since it was onsale in thier store for $129.00 (After he fell out over the price) He said no problem then I told him I wanted a raincheck for 15 of these and he wrote it up. Now I got a raincheck for 15 more drives. WOW So I leave and decide to stop at the BB in Novi Mich. They didn't have any of these drives but while I'm in there an anoucement comes over the PA saying we have PS2s instock and to form a line. So ask a guy that works there and is standing 5 feet from me where the line starts and he says RIGHT HERE! I thought this blowing my mind. So I bought that too.

I know this sounds like a Brag and Moan but since it is onsale at BB you can get a raincheck.

I tried to pick one up from CompUSA in Manhattan. Nothing left. DOH! The sales guy said people were buying like 20 at a time. I missed out.

IITravel: I would've emailed this to you or PM'd you but you don't have either enabled. I hope you read this. The Fry's at Burbank said that they WILL pricematch CompUSA. Call up there CSR, it's this really nice lady. And last time I checked they had some in stock.
I know that the Manhattan Beach one does PM with BB, Good Guys, Staples, OD. I've done it numerous times just for fun! Got like $1 back a few times. If they are looking for local competitors only, there's a BB right down the street from that Fry's. 2 miles local enough for them?
For the rest of the ppl who didn't get in on this, why not ask friend to go down to Fry's and grab a few for all to enjoy??? Better be someone you trust and trusts you though. I'm sure most of us have receipts.

Blackhawksfan: I had the same problem, the pdf would come out blank .Try right clicking the pdf link and selecting "Save As". Once you've saved it, just open it and the rebate should appear
