Iomega ZipCD 12x/10x/32x - Low MP3 / WAV Ripping Quality

I picked up one of the $99 dealies at CompUSA this weekend but am having issues with the unit ripping songs off of a CD. I'd like to compile a few CDs to play in my car, but it doesn't seem to be working all that well. Windows Media Player 7 seems to rip the songs into a WMA file perfectly, but the CD Burner plug in for it (an Adaptec plug-in) says that there was no recorder found.

Both MusicMatch Jukebox Plus (which comes with the unit) and Nero exhibit occasional popping or skipping, about 1-2 times per song. I have tried turning on error correction and all that jazz, but it doesn't seem to help.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Flash it using Plextor's 1.07 firmware 🙂

Doing so will make it a Plextor drive. Also you should be able to get 32x DAE

The drive is on its own Channel - It's an A7v motherboard and I have the iomega unit on the seconday IDE port of the regular ata/66 IDE ports. My hard drive is on the promise ata-100 and dvd rom on the primary IDE of the ata/66

I have the baby-brother to yours, mine's 8/4/32 ZipCd.

Have you tried dropping the write speed down to 2x, or even 1x? You usually do this when you have a buffer over-run; but this also can help if your audio quality on your burned CDs is suffering.
