I own an Iomega Screenplay MX2 Media Drive (Product Specs) and am looking to purchase Iomega’s EZ Easy Media & Backup Networking Device (Product Specs) If I do so, will I be able to connect the two via wireless networking? I have read the tech support on iomega’s website and it claims the EZ Easy Media & Backup can stream to screenplay devices however, there are several screenplay devices and only the newer ones are able to connect to wifi.

My concern is that I will purchase the networking device and be unable to stream media from my network to my media drive. This would be an issue considering I am purchasing the networking device primarily for this purpose.

I also have a second question and humor me on this, I am a noobie to the tech world but I am curious and understand everyone was a noobie initially. When I install a home networking device with media files on it, will it require bandwidth from my internet provider? Example, I upload media to my networking device and later stream a movie to my laptop or tv via wirelessly from inside my house. Will that information require bandwidth from my service provider or will it be generated from the networking device?

Also, how does this apply to the cloud service provided with the product? When I generate a cloud, I am assuming it is merely my files being backed up on a hard drive at iomega and I have access to that through an internet connection. When I initialize my cloud, will I use bandwidth to backup my cloud? Will I be required to transfer each byte of information via the internet to their server, because if so I am in trouble, I have 60GB a month max and own over 2TB of information.

Lastly, how does accessing your network from an external site work with respect to bandwidth? Say I have my home networking device connected to my home internet and I go to a friend’s house. If I access my network via his internet and stream a movie to a laptop, is it using both his and my bandwidth?

I appreciate all responses in this manner

Assuming you are talking about stuff on your local network, then it should not use your internet connection. I say should because it is possible the program you use will use the internet to fetch information about the media you are playing, such as covers and related media to the media you are playing. But generally speaking, no it doesn't use internet bandwidth.

If you are backing up to the internet, you will definitely use your bandwidth.

Accessing your storage remotely will also use your bandwidth.

I don't have anything to say about the iomega products since I have not used them. I suggest you contact their customer support.
