I found this on another forum I visit.

I used this same method last month to buy this drive. Only now it's $30 less because of the additional rebate from Staples.

Iomega CD-RW Item No. 435458

Use a $30 off $150 staples coupon to bring it from $159 to $129.
Then $30 Iomego rebate,
Then $30 Staples Rebate, = $69 (Staples ALWAYS accepts photocopies of the UPC so you don't need to have two)

For the Staples rebate, Search by manufacturer, then find the rebate.

Make sure add a few bucks worth of stuff to put you up to $150 and make you eligible for the $30 off $150 coupon.

-Also if you want to sweeten this deal some more and don't mind the PM with buy.com you can save another $10.

It looks like buy.com free shipping is over, also can anyone confirm this is a repackaged plextor drive?

Is Staples offering any full rebates on anything? Might want to add to this deal.

I read that in a thread last month, and that is the reason why I purchased the drive in the first place.

Can anyone confirm that this is a repackaged plextor? I've done some digging on specs and noticed that this iomega states it has a 2 meg buffer...yet the plextor model states it has a 4 meg buffer.. I want to get this but would like to know before I buy. Thanks!

i think you're confused, the 4meg version is the 12x burner.. the 8x one well... 2megs is enough.. and this is not a "BurnProof" model either...

The Iomega 8X4X32 may, at one time, been a Plextor. Now they are not. They are either AOpen or ACER, both way below Plextor in quality and often not completely CDClone compatible. But for $69, they'll certainly do a decent job...

The price is good but it is definitely not a Plextor. It is a Acer or Phillips or something similar.

I don't know about those rebates. Both the Iomega and Staples require the original UPC label, according to the rebate instructions. Both their terms are simliar so it appears the Staples rebate is simply mirroring or replacing the Iomega rebate. Calling Staples to ask if you can send a copy of the UPC label does not protect you from a later dispute. Any assurances over the phone is not worth the paper it's written on. You better get a mailing from Staples saying a copy of the UPC is okay.

Richter should also confirm if this is or is not a Plextor, since several have said to the contrary.

...anyway $70 (or $90[$30+$30+30] off the $150 price) is tempting if it can be had...

This drive is a real resource hog! Also, it has a flimsy tray, which is too easy to break.
When are they going to make slot CDRW drives?

This is not a Plextor rebadge. May have been at one time, but not now.

But to address an earlier comment, Plextor rebadges/repackages in the 8432 area came with only a 2Mb buffer as opposed to the 4Mb in the actual Plextor. I had one of the original Cendyne 8432 drives and it was definitely a Plextor (repackaged) OEM drive (2Mb). The sticker on the cover and the Bios check identified it as a Plextor 8432Ti and I was able to use the Plextor firmware to upgrade it.

People better read the rebate terms carefully or they may be disappointed.

The Staples rebate form clearly states that it is for drives purchased only in store, ie. not through Staples Direct or Staples.com. The following is straight off the rebate form on Staple's site:

<< Rebate applies to the purchase of select Iomega CD-RW Drives (Model #31025, 31120, and 31475) at Staples stores only. Purchase must be made between January 1, 2001 and March 31, 2001. >>

Yes, Staples does accept copies of the UPC. But those of us who actually do the deals already know that. I have done many Staples rebate deals and have never had a problem with a UPC copy. Also, BOTH rebates are offered on the WEB SITE with links on the drives product page.......Now, what does that tell you?

It tells us that the particular rebate being referred to is exclusive to Staples stores, INCLUDING the Staples online store. We already covered this a while back...it just means that rebate is not available to non-Staples/Staples.com purchases.

Wings:

Better read that Staples rebate form again ...

You need to read more carefully. The BOTH that your refer to is actually two different Staples rebates, one is for model #31475 only, the other rebate covers model #'s 31025 & 31120 only.

Incorrect. If a Staples rebate is for all their operations, it will specifically state on the rebate that it is good at Staples stores, Staples Direct, and Staples.com. I have three different Staples rebate forms printed out right here in front of me that are worded as such. The Iomega rebates are not worded this way.

I sent in this exact staples rebate with a copyof the UPC and it was accepted. There is a thread over at fat wallet yesterday concerning this very issue.

Actually the "both" I was referring to was the "Rebate Offer" and the "Special Offer". Sorry, I didn't realize that they had pulled the reference to the "Special Offer" which was the Iomega $30 rebate. I stopped by Staples today and found out why. Staples has their own separate rebate offer with Iomega. It's on an Iomega rebate form that specifically references purchases made at Staples. To qualify you must buy $199 worth of Iomega products (on same receipt) from Staples to get a $35 rebate OR $299 worth of Iomega products for a $50 rebate. NOTE - these are not really rebates on this offer, they are "Gift Checks" which can be used on your next purchase of IOMEGA products at Staples. Obviously Staples would prefer that you use these Iomega Rewards rather than the Iomega rebate so you'll have to spend them at Staples. There is also another Iomega/Staples Gift Check offer that I found, this one is for a $50 gift check when you buy any Iomega Zip 250 drive, and that form doesn't say it has to be spent on more Iomega products.

The Iomega rebate is still good on the CD-RW, and yes Staples will accept a copy of the UPC as always.

BTW - the Staples Item #435458 is Iomega model #31025.

I almost forgot, my local Staples just put a sign up today on this drive that says "Sale Price $159 less $30 instant rebate = $129"
The manager said you can still get $30 from the Staples rebate and $30 from the Iomega rebate. And if you're a Staples Dividends Gold customer than you can use the dividends email for $25 off $100 in store - final cost $44 + tax.
