I already posted this in under another post but thought this is a great post by itself.

I had picked up the Iomega Burn-proof for $179 at Circuit City with a $30 circuit city rebate: #31236 on their site, do a search, the rebate is linked on that page (rebate starts 12/6-1/15).

Now CompUSA has it for $149 with $20 rebate. You can pricematch it and get the drive for $119 or less (less having to do with the extra 10% you get, but I am not sure if it's like BestBuy where is only an extra 10% if you already bought the product) before taxes at Circuit City.

Where is the drive at compusa? I didn't find it at the website for 149.00. It was 249.00. Is this a B&M deal only. The compusa sku: 275722 Iomega zipcd 12x4x32x. mfg part # is 31236.
Please post the link or sku for the deal you mentioned. Thanks

I found the link at circuit city and it does have the link to a rebate there.

I just got this one at Compusa. I had to go to 3 stores to find it. I'm sure it's a B&M deal only. The store I found it at had no markings on the shelf, but it came up $149 at check out. Don't forget to pick up the rebate coupon!

I bought his one during the Thanksgiving time from Best Buy for $149.99. Where do you find the flash at the Sanyo site? What model should I look for?

Just bought one of these from CompUSA. They have it advertised this Sunday for 149.99 with a 20.00 rebate. However, the rebate form is a 30.00 rebate so you can get a 12/4/32 burn proof drive for around 120.00 which is a great price!

How is this burner compared to Plextor and TDK Burners? Is it as reliable? what about compatibility (win 2k)? Any Information would be really appreciated.

This burner is LOUD. The Plextor kicks its @$$. There is no contest what so ever. The problem is the Plextor is about $50 more. Do you want the best or the cheapest? The drive works adequately and I bought 2 of them for gifts, but my Plextor is in an entirely different class.

How can the Plextor be in a different class, Sanyo makes both drives. The only difference is the package.
I have it and I bought one for a friend, you can't go wrong for $120..

I agree with DDDay..

Jamey you are miss informed unfortunately...

Sanyo builds several drives...I have two Plex 12x's and now have purchased 6 of the IOmega 12/4/32's

The Plexs I now sold...they are nice...but the IOmegas after the flash are AWESOME....

There is a thread here with all the info to flash them...and the compatibility with all copyware out there...CloneCD etc... My Plex had trouble with several formats... Iomega is problem free.

plextor's shouldn't have problems with CloneCD because they're the ones that are actually supporting the program and helping its release. You can check it out on the clonecd website.

as i understands it, sanyo didn't built the drive itself. they just own the burn-proof technology which probably means the chips or whatever things that made burn-proof possible. other things like the motor and the lenses should be made by the company that sells it thus making the difference in price and quality.

this is another drive that uses burn-proof by lite-on on ebworld for $151.99 after MSN passport deal. available on 12/19. not as hot as iomega but suppose to be less noisy.

Unless the firmware flash somehow enables burnproof,
the 12/4/32 drive IS NOT burnproof! The 12/10/32 is!
And yes Sanyo manufactures the burnproof drives! They
also sell under their own name. They have just released
the 16/10/40 with burnproof.

The box says Burnproof right on it! I have the drive and it does have Burnproof. Iomega does sell another drive that is 12x4x32x and does not have Burnproof. The one on sale DOES have it.

I just picked up one today at Compusa. But it comes with a $30 rebate not $20 and it says burnproof on the box. But if you can rewrite 1000 times is it that important?

Yes, for two reasons.
1) CD-RW media is more expensive than CD-R
2) It's a waste of time to write an entire disk only to realize it screwed up

i dont know much about the plextors but the iomega 12x 4x 32x is my third cd burner. its definately the best one i have ever used. after the firmware upgrade, adaptec software didn't work for me but clonecd and nero are unstoppable on this drive. everything i threw at it finished within 8 minutes while i was doing other things on my comp. this drive, at this price is unbeatable. if you hold out for 16x burner you are crazy. whats the point? save 2 minutes off the fastest burning time? get them while they are hot. if you dont feel comfortable flashin hardware then dont bother cause the drive sucks before the flash. and this drive is definately BURN-proof, it says so right on the box. its also definately made by sanyo cause the firmware i used i got right off sanyo's website.

edit:
loud? its not quiet but its far from loud. i have an acer 50x reader that is loud -- it sounds like a jet taking off. the iomega drive is just a whisper.

Ok guys I see things about flashing the Iomega. OK, I'll bite, is there somewhere I can find out about this? I like this burner as is, but if I can make it better, great! Somewhere in this thread someone complained about it being noisy. Well it's right next to me with the case open and I can't hear it. Of course maybe I'm deaf. LOL

This link if it works.. will take you to the firmware page.
Goto the CD-R link and then look for Sanyo CRD-BP900P 3.27
Firmware

Best of luck with the upgrade, I did it and it works great.

Thank you guys soooooo much!

I just went to CompUSA at Columbia, MD. It's at the intersection of Route 175 and Snowden River Pkwy. I asked for the drive and they told me they're sold out so they gave me the 12/10/32 one for the price and the rebate (which is $30) should still works!

They had about 10 units when I left. I wanted to buy two but they didn't allow me.

I'm not sure if your local store would do the same, but just in case your local store manager wants to confirm it, the one I went to is CompUSA #354, 410-953-8100

Good luck!

So if you flash the Sanyo bios and don't like it, is there anyway to flash the old Iomega bios back on the drive? I know yes is the answer but where can I find the bios for the Iomega one since the Sanyo flash does not give the option of saving the old bios like most motherboards do.
Thanks.
